16. No, by tradition one is referred to by the highest title to which he

or she has been elected or appointed. Claude Pepper of Florida served in the Senate then the House. He was always referred to as Senator Pepper.

Gore was vice president (and elected president). Therefore he would be referred to as such.

Bush was elected Governor of Texas. According to tradition, he should be referred to as Governor Bush. But, given the fact he was appointed to the presidency by the Supreme Court and went on to "win" another fixed election, he is referred to president.

Inhofe consistently said "Senator" while everyone else refers to Gore as VP.
I had to get up and walk away from the computer as Jerkofe spewed on.

17. Actually, it was a sign of respect because

once a Senator, you are always go by the title "Senator" regardless of how long you served or been gone from the Senate.

I don't know if that supercedes the Vice President title or not. I know a president is always called president. Perhaps, Inhoffe should have said "Mr. Vice President". But he was not in error calling Gore "Senator".
