Poll question: What's the most offensive thing about Rick Warren ...
... delivering an "invocation" during Obama's inaugural?

So many other issues would fall naturally into place.

9. Not even.

More a cover-up, though I suppose there could be many reasons.

6. Rick Warren is to the Fundagelicals what the DLC is to right wing ideology
Same fucking bullshit, just packaged differently to fool a different audience.

7. Other -- these megachurch self-proclaimed "pastors" are tax-dodging hucksters.
Rick Warren is about as "spiritual" as a used condom in a trash can.

If we have to have the religious element represented at the inauguration, couldn't we at least have someone who's an authentic spiritual leader -- instead of a plastic, shallow, commercial, religion-as-a-commodity phoney-ass evangelical covergirl?

It makes me ill... :puke:

No, first, I don't think we should have any religious component in a state function, but if we can't seem to grow the fuck up as a nation, I don't see a problem with having a plastic Jesus huckster breaking that particular law instead of a person who many might consider genuine.

Let the GOP corner the "faith-based" crimes market.

15. I don't mind an appeal to the better angels of our nature, by someone who actually walks the talk.
Rabbi Lerner of Tikkun, for example, would have been an inspired -- and inspiring -- choice.

Or the pastor from the Unitarian Church where the right wing fanatic went on his hate-inspired shooting spree.

We're not going to be able to excise religion from American public life. I can deal with that. However, that being the case, one could at least be creative about it -- you know, push the envelope a bit.

Falling back on a plastic celebrity scam artist doesn't honor anything, it just pulls the public further away from recognizing substance over surface. It's really an egregious disservice to the collective consciousness of our country.

in any government function. And I don't consider any of them to be 'genuine', they are all religious hucksters.

14. Before today..I had no idea..
who Rick Warren is. What I've learned today is that he is a typical fundamentalist, that supports all that the label implies. I can't imagine anyone that comes from that cloth that would be any different, so I think they should have several religious leaders that represent more of our population and better reflect the values of faith.

20. Nothing, because I see the flip. HE is Endorsing Obama! The Right must be Choking!
Obama is pro-choice, and by giving the Invocation, Warren is virtually endorsing him.

The pro-lifers must be gagging!
