My best friend from law school is Dan's wife. She used to be a rabid Republican. She married well and changed her tune. I'm very proud of her.

Don't forget Sander Levin, the Congressman, who is Carl's older brother.

And their cousin, Dan Levin, has done exemplary things in Chicago, along the way becoming a very, very wealthy man. He's managed to combine doing good with making money - all of it honorable. Not easy to do in this world.

My best friend, the former Republican, and I used to argue about politics when we were first-year law students in Chicago. It was during the Watergate hearings, so we had some good go-rounds. But, at her first wedding, I stood up for her, and she was there when my first married died. I'm godmother to her daughter, who is also a pretty wonderful young woman, and I celebrate her finally seeing the light and donating tons and tons of $$$ to Obama and other liberal Democratic candidates (she's independently wealthy, coming from the family that founded Lever Brothers).

So, yeah, there are always stories to be told about our political figures, and the Levin family has a wonderful record. You do pick good heroes, Kristi.
