If you met bush at a party would you be polite or would you call him a monster?
Edited on Thu Dec-18-08 07:45 AM by Philosoraptor
Personally, if someone at some swanky function said, "I'd like you to meet President bush", I'd REFUSE to shake his hand, then I'd call him the worst disgrace to America ever. If I had enough time, I'd spit a couple of awful, nasty names in there too, in fact, I'd make such a scene that I'd have to be escorted out.

I could simply never be formal or polite to such a fucking murderous monster.

Given his personality, that would torque him more than anything else.

There are classy ways of being snarky. This guy deserves at least that.

35. so attacking him verbally changes any of that?
It is nothing more than a "feel good" activity.

It would not make me feel good - so would refrain from any such boorish behavior. It is more a reflection on how "you" act in a social setting than on junior.

just mho.

Say . . . a Ghandi, or a Mother Theresa, or someone you find acceptable.

Can you truly envision either of these to verbally attack?

Or would they take a more "mature" approach? (I guess, a more "manipulated" approach in your world)

50. Fuck dignity...
What dignity can a man have who cannot speak one's own heart, when it is so heavily burdened? If this is your view of dignity, begone with it, as it is a worthless concept to me.

A far larger number of your saintly founding fathers probably tread upon the lines of what is socially acceptable, than you realize. People are people. I imagine even Mother Teresa's shit stank too.

55. And there is also something we call "integrity"
How would you like to die knowing that you blew your one moment in your life to speak your heart in any profane manner you saw fit to express true reaction to the horror and transgressions this man has brought on the human race? How would you like to know your heart was suppressed by external social norms, that claim your personal sovereignty and manipulate your actions? How much integrity does a man have who suppressed their inner voice and failed to penetrate this bubble?

41. What is the value of "maturity" other than self edification?
At least when I am done masturbating, I have something to show for it...

Why let this social norm that is constructed around you continue to cage you in? We are only human. We feel, we laugh, we love, we hate, we breathe, we shit. Here is a man whose backwards vision, spawned by greed and incompetence, has claimed the lives of thousands of our human brothers and sisters. They were derived a chance further to revel in their essence; to be human. In their name, embrace your humanity. Tell him to fuck of with all the vehemence you can muster.

23. You know, I have a friend who had to meet VP Cheney. This friend is an avowed
left wing liberal, and without going into details, for his job he had to be at a function where circumstances made it necessary to be introduced to Cheney and shake his hand. He gritted his teeth through the whole thing, but he couldn't get out if it, and he couldn't say anything, and he basically just did the best he could to get through it and get it over with.

When I was talking with him about it later I commented on how I don't think I could have gone through with it, I would have had to wash my hands immediately, etc. etc. etc.

But then I was struck by a philosophical point. I wouldn't call myself an "intellectual", necessarily, but I do think about a lot of things and I have something of an intellectually inquisitive nature, and I think sometimes scientific/philosophical curiosities sometimes trump ideological concerns.

I saw that this actually might have been one of those times for me, had I been in my friend's position. Although it would have been repellent on so many levels to shake the hand of the monster Cheney, I can't help but think that, from a philosophical point of view, it might actually be fascinating to literally shake the hand of a man you know is going to Hell.

And upon learning so I would openly tell him that very fact; "You truly are a blue blood idiot. I've heard that in Harvard you openly displayed some sort of social status superiority complex. You have no superiority over anyone save monetarily and by means of connection." I'm sure he would have some laughably counterable puerile snark on walking away.

I would do something similar to this:

I encountered a man who was filmed wearing an "Osama for Obama" tee w a picture of Obama in Kenyan garb to a Hillary Primary Party (admitted GOP crossover voter). He is a wealthy local business man whose children attend the same school as mine. Although I did not want to make a scene for my children's sake, my husband and I stood by him and I said real loud "there's that ignorant racist that wore that Osama for Obama on television" in a crowd of people at a school function. I also forwarded the film clip along with an article about it to a number of the progressive teachers at the school (not on their school emails, obviously).

31. It depends on the host or hostess of the party
Edited on Thu Dec-18-08 08:38 AM by lunatica
I wouldn't disrespect my host or hostess. But maybe the urge to wipe my hand after the handshake would be too great to resist. I know my disapproval would show in my face (clenched jaw, frown, lips pressed together, words spoken through clenched teeth, etc.). I know I would definitely want to wash my hands after that because I've been in situations where I shook hands with someone I loathed. I could feel the koodies like they were slime.

And the handshake itself would show my disapproval. I wouldn't grip his hand. I would keep my fingers stiff and withdraw my hand quickly enough that he would know I couldn't stand to be touched by him. It's subtle enough that only he would get it while everyone else would miss it entirely. Sometimes these gestures are far more effective than words.

65. "Who cares what you think?" -- Bush 7/4/01
It was July 4, 2001, and we were both at one of those things that the late historian Daniel Boorstin would have labeled a "pseudo event": a church picnic in Philadelphia, designed to help promote George W. Bush's faith-based policies. Because I had serious misgivings about the president's performance to that point, my own involvement in the whole operation had left me feeling a bit like a pseudo person, so when I had the chance to shake Bush's hand, I said, "Mr. President, I hope you only serve one term. I'm very disappointed in your work so far."

His smiling response was swift: "Who cares what you think?"

:patriot:

I'd do exactly the same, and I'd expect the same response from Smirk.
