1. Makes me chuckle
How could anyone be offended when someone is wishing you something positive in the land of the free? I guess religious zealots have that broomstick way up the ole poopshoot. They just love being offended.

11. Of course.
I've always believed that the "humility" so valued by Catholics for example, is a code word for tolerance; that is, we must know that we know not, so it's our godly responsibility not to judge.

8. why..??? stupid crap, why am i required to do your religion your way. ??
i don't say anything anymore, i am disgusted with a state religion that requires nonChristians to perform their religious rituals, and required endure their public religious icons.

america is getting to be like an islamic republic.. prescribed religion under fear of punishment

i finally figured out why i couldn't keep a job in TN, i had a 'Free Tibet' bumper sticker.. i lost 4 jobs in a job slim area.. i took it off.

9. I remember as a little kid...
my parents used to send out Christmas cards which read "Season's Greetings" or "Happy Holidays." It was perfectly acceptable, but that was before the so-called war on Christmas when it was the thought that counted.

18. Politics merged with religion.
I'll tell you from the inside, attending a new Protestant Church, the new priest was a little shocked because he had seen what the other churches were up to, and he said that his church really concentrated on the teachings of Christ.

10. No, I am not offended, but there are many, many people (even here at DU)
who seem to live to find something which offends them. That's pretty pathetic.

Equality is an insult to them.

20. True, except that what you see as inane, is actually a true reflection
of the kind of mentality that the paper has to deal with in the area. Some questions just remind me of how backward this place really is. But, they're still valid questions.

29. I'll bet real money it has happened
When I first moved to Central Florida 20 years ago, I witnessed something similar while grocery shopping. A Spanish-speaking family were talking quietly among themselves, moving down the aisle making their purchases, when a southern-accented fella shouted at them, "Shut up with that sh*t, we speak English in this country!" Same backasswards mentality, different issue.

31. Wouldn't surprise me at all...
Just to tweak folks, I always press the Spanish button at the self checkout at my favorite supermarket. I speak Spanish, but it wouldn't matter...the machine works the same as it does in English.

I've had many comments, all negative, since I'm a 6' white guy with a beard. One time, the minder of the self check area came over, got in front of me, and just reset the machine to English. Didn't ask. Didn't say a word. So, I explained to her, in Spanish, that I did not speak English, and asked what she was doing. Then I reset the machine back to Spanish. She looked disgusted.

Try it, if you're familiar with the machine. You'll get some surprises from the other customers around you. It's as though they are offended to just be hearing Spanish.

30. I get the image of Samuel L. Jackson from "Pulp Fiction":
"Say 'Happy Holidays' again, mother****er! Say 'Happy Holidays' one more more mother****ing time! I dare you! I double dare you!"

If anyone got in my face for wishing them Happy Holidays, I would wish them the following:

"May the rest of your life be as miserable as you are."

I just fix them with the "I can't believe you just said that, you moron" stare, and say absolutely nothing at all. I can pretty much stare anyone down, and don't mind doing it.

And counted each one.

Just sayin'...

The results are always meaningless. It's just a way to bring more readers to their site.
