Poll question: Did any of your friends vote for Prop 8?
Or would have voted for it if it had been on the ballot in your state? I was going to ask about families too but there would be some crossover perhaps so decided to limit it to friends.

1. Maybe you should have waited for the afternoon to post this poll
It's still very early in CA.

(Of course, lately at DU, some threads seem to stay around forever.)

4. Honestly just curious -
It's in relation to the story on Prop 8 - that restaurant. I know a lot of people who voted for Prop 2 (I think) out here in Florida; I have been arguing with several of them (convinced one of them, I think), so wondering how much that is coloring my own perception of that story.

5. Ah okay.
I'm sure there were religious people at my office who voted for it.

I have no idea how many.

But certainly nobody amongst my closest circle of friends.

3. I'm innocent. I have no friends in California or otherwise.
I'm sure you can see how that could be.

10. What other response would be appropriate?
They voted to strip me and mine of constitutional rights. I'm not about to send them an appreciation card.

9. I would guess a few would be 3-6 maybe?
And several would be more than that?

11. My BIL is the only one I know of who voted for it.
Despite his love for me and my partner, he doesn't get it. He thinks we are a miraculous exception.

13. No friends I don't think
But I don't get to choose my relatives.

I'm sure I have lots of acquaintances who would, but I couldn't have the warm feelings associated with friendship with someone who had opinions like that. But I knew people who voted for the Michigan version of Proposal 8 a few years back - but just neighbors and acquaintances, not friends. If I were getting to know someone and becoming friends and some bigoted remark came out, things wouldn't progress. That's happened too, and not just in regard to gay rights. Someone I thought might become a friend said she wouldn't let her daughter watch some tv channel or another because they had too many "black shows". Which included The Backyardigans, which is apparently a "black show" and sent her off on a rant. And then someone said she wished we didn't have this Islamic little girl in the girl scout troop. In both cases, I spoke my mind and that was the end of those potential friendships. I don't expect people to agree with me on every issue, but I don't feel comfortable enough around bigots to be friends with them. And I am not about to sit there and smile when people make bigoted comments so they probably won't feel comfortable with me either.

I can't say 100% because of course we have secret ballots so maybe some people keep their mouths shut around me.

19. Firstly, it's unlikely I'd be friends with someone with such values to begin with.
Secondly, if I discovered such, I'd cease being their friend - and they're already not mine.

21. my neighbor who i always thought was a nice person right up until i saw the "yes on 8"
sign on her lawn. She's been my neighbor for almost 9 years and never got political until prop hate.

Do i consider her a friend---no, she is now just a person who lives next door.

23. If they did they wouldn't tell me.
Hah, hah, like a big bloody plank in their own eye, God save them...

But I'm pretty sure most of them voted against it, even those whose own religions were telling them to vote yes.

If God and your own good conscience are telling you to vote one way, and the church is telling you to vote another, go with God and your good conscience. Churches are as imperfect as people and they sometimes cower from the Light when a new door is opened.

Gay marriage is just, denying gay couples the right to marry is unjust. That's the Light.
