I'd second the motion to provide a PayPal link -- might want to send that advice on to the Feeding America folks. I don't care about it so much but it really does make it easier for many to pay online.

And, frankly it's the first time I've seen this thread. ;)

I went to some trouble to set up a PayPal account, I am cautious about giving my credit card details, and credit card entry takes too long. I set up a PayPal account for a local group's website, and it's not that hard.

There's probably been ten times -- including this one -- when I went to make a donation, saw no PayPal option, and said 'Never mind.'

Can anybody explain the decline of the PayPal option?

It may be that they pay a far lower rate with the major credit cards than Paypal would have charged them to use their service. Feeding America currently keeps their administrative expenses at under 1% and I, for one, am happy that almost all my dollars go to the needy.

Also, Feeding America

1) has a 4-star rating from Charity Navigator (http://www.charitynavigator.org/index.cfm?bay=search.summary&orgid=5271 )

and

2) has earned the Better Business Bureau's "Accredited Charity" status by meeting all 20 of its Standards for Charity Accountability (http://charityreports.bbb.org/Public/Report.aspx?CharityID=2331)


so I think you can feel pretty confident that they are not going to misuse your credit card information.


As for your assertion that "credit card entry takes too long", I really can't help you there if 30 seconds of time is too much for you to spare.

I am not the only one that says they would prefer to use PayPal. But its use seems to be declining.

As I remember, DU fund-raising drives accept PayPal.

Does anyone know what PayPal charges versus what credit cards charge?

I received an email last week from Feeding America saying that THEIR Board would double new contributions. So, with my matching grant and theirs, you can QUADRUPLE your money.....

Heartfelt thanks to brooklynite, Skinner, and all who are giving to this cause.

Hard times are upon us, and will get worse before they get better. The numbers of hungry is rising as more and more people are loosing jobs, and donations are down as fewer people are able to donate.
