At least some good news today: Paul Weyrich died.
WASHINGTON (AP) — Conservative activist Paul Weyrich, who coined the phrase "moral majority" and helped turn social conservatives into a powerful force in the Republican Party, died Thursday. He was 66.

Weyrich's death was announced by the Heritage Foundation, a conservative think thank that he had helped to create.

Republican National Committee Chairman Mike Duncan said Weyrich "was instrumental in the development of conservative thought" in America.

As the first president of the Heritage Foundation and the leader of other conservative organizations, Weyrich's service "embodied and further advanced the Republican Party's core values of limited government, lower taxes and individual responsibility," added Duncan.

Yes, we all die sooner or later. I'd kinda like to think that maybe my own behavior before I die can be a little kinder and a bit more compassionate than the lowest common denominator.

YMMV.

22. Nope. But I aso don't think living a long life and dying a natural death is a
great tragedy. It's hard for those close to the deceased, and I offer them my condolences.

It's still a normal part of life, and not all of us will have as long a life or as natural a death as he had.

23. I'll try to explain it in a simple way for you.
I'm glad he's gone, because he's had a net negative effect on the world. Adios. We're better off without him.

Living a long life and having a natural death is not a tragedy, but a part of life - and he had a longer life than many will know. Still, it's sad for his family, so to them personally I wish condolences and that the loss of someone they cared about is as easy as it can be.

42. its very simple, really
It is very easy for most of us (I would venture) to separate our feelings for Paul Weyrich from our feelings for his immediate family. Weyrich was, as was said, a "net negative" for humanity. But I'm big enough to recognize that some people may not see things that way. Some of these people might have been amongst his immediate family. I know when someone dies in my immediate family, the rest of us grieve. We feel bad. I suppose Weyrich's immediate family is feeling the same. I can have sympathy for these people, feel for their personal suffering and wish for it to pass quickly -- while at the same time hate the life and work of Paul Weyrich.

What's so difficult to understand here?

56. Why would I do that if I had sympathy for the family?
I would suppress my feelings about Weyrich and his life's work, and just simply express my condolences. That is not sociopathy.

Look, let's pretend Hitler had children, perhaps a 4 year old girl at the time of his death. I can hate Hitler's life and work while having sympathy for the pain and suffering of the 4 year old girl, totally innocent and unaware of the evils committed by the father. All she know is her daddy is gone.

Again, this is quite simple to see. I am puzzled why you would call this "sociopathy".

59. Human feelings other than 1 at a time may be too complx for some people to fathom.
There are many times in an ordinary person's life when there is a convergence of different feelings, some of which may be hidden or temprarily suppressed.

Doesn't seem hard to understand to me.
