In the Franken/Coleman recount they just allowed a vote
for Franken where the voter wrote, "I Love Barack" in the margin.

Franken will be leading by the end of the day. He's currently behind by 146 votes.

1. That drives me up the wall, though -- why do people think they can do that to their ballots?
Just...mark it and be done! Or maybe they should put a blank space where people can add their comments or doodles.

8. Why doesnt the machine reject it and the poll worker require the voter
to revote over and over until they follow the instructions (machine accepts ballot). That would condition the voter to follow instructions. I would tend to think that voter had no idea their vote ended up potentially being discarded due to those markings.

24. They didnt fold, spindle or mutilate the ballot....
....so I doubt the, 'removal of this tag is prohibited by law,' cops will be breaking down their door anytime soon.

4. Did the voter check the box AND do that?
Edited on Thu Dec-18-08 03:46 PM by kirby
Was it marked for Franken but the machine rejected it because of the extra handwriting in the margain?

Or are they assuming someone who Loves Barack would have voted for Franken?

5. Yes, it was correctly marked for Franken. The challenge was that the
voter made an identifying mark by writing that statement. They rejected the challenge and gave the vote to Franken.

7. Why would they challenge that then?
Oh never mind, this is the Repukes who dont really care about voter intent unless it benefits them.

10. Someone offers you $20 to vote for Franken.

But to make certain you really do vote for Franken, they want you to write "I love Obama" on the ballot. If they don't see a ballot with that written on it, you don't get your money.

14. Yep. Get ready for the screeching once Al take the lead
Ever since the election, Coleman has held a slim lead over Frankin even though it's fluctuated throughout this recounting process. Once Al takes the lead over Coleman, get ready for the screeching hue and cry from the repubs in the M$M about "tainted" ballots and "obviously liberal" judges. Get out your earplugs!

Apparently a manufacturer protest like Gore v Bush in 2000 is being prepared...
