Clearly they don't want him in the hoosegow, even now. So they send him home with an ankle bracelet and part time house arrest in his Manhattan Apartment/Penthouse/Manse/Castle/Fortress. He can still go the club during the day, so long as he's home in time for the CBS Evening Nooz. I bet he can even go to the track ....... or the office.

Think about it. Fifty Billion Dollars. That's more than the national treasury of some countries. And this guy stole it.

But here's the thing. He's an old man. And the rich-loving media is portraying his crimes as very complicated and involved and hard to figure out and potentially ***years*** will be needed to sort it all out and appeals and all that crap.

He'll be dead before this goes to trial.

Fifty Billion Dollars.

2. they should have denied bail. I believe he will pull a Ken Lay and never have to serve.
Paraguay or UAE or whatever hot spot the filthy rich can spend their days living off the hard earned wages of others will soon have an over croding problem.

3. NPR did a fascinating piece on this guy yesterday...

What a con he was running! Investors were suckered into thinking they were part of an exclusive club, and it was so important to them that they didn't question him (they might be kicked out) and they didn't listen to their own tax attorneys, who tried to tell them that things didn't add up. The guy played to their desire to be the chosen few. He really knew his clients, but they were shallow fools.

6. Shallow fools, a vital hospital, and dozens of necessary charities.
At the very moment when so many more will need help, the agencies that provide such help have been bankrupted.

He preyed on his own. And he preyed on people so decent and generous themselves, they couldn't imagine one who seemed like them being so different.

Greed was a factor, absolutely. But a great deal of that greed was the hope to be able to help more than before.

You might want to factor that in with your scorn.

8. No scorn - they were shallow about that exclusive club...
...not even daring to question the man for fear of being tossed out and embarrassed in front of family and friends. Amazing story.

The loss to charities is a sad part of the fall-out.

4. Oh, he'll serve. He bankrupted rich people.
Ain't nothing as pissy and vengeful as a rich guy who lost money.

7. And the maximum fine is $15mil.
He ought to plead out, write a check, and be done with it.

This reminds me of the old oilman (Albert Alkek?) down in Victoria, Texas, who asked the judge if he could write a check for his $7.5mil fine. The judge replied that he would have to speak to the guy's banker.

"Your Honor, I am the bank."

10. They can steal more with a pen than any thief with a gun...
No one will serve even one day in jail. Bernake, Bush, Paulson, AIG, Lehman, Bear Sterns, Cheney, Haliburton, Blackwater, Exxon......
