Guess I better go check and make sure they're using their safety gear. I think we have about 8 inches here in Auburn Hills so far. Ahhhh. I hear the sound of snow blowers as I type. One of the boys is clearing the driveway, I get to stay nice and warm in the house. Thank god for children.:toast:

4. 8 inches already? Yikes.....I work downtown and took the SMART bus rather than drive today.
I'm going to hang out, eat and enjoy a couple of drinks before returning home to Madison Heights. Hopefully there won't be a snowdrift in front of my door.

6. At least. You might want to consider geting a room and staying the night.
But the road people should be out. It's still coming down hard too. I was told that it was supposed to stop snowing around 2 pm. Now I don't know if the forecast was based upon the snow starting at 1 a.m. I was up at 4:30 and it wasn't snowing then. I went back to bed and when I got up at 9 or so, there was a ton of it already. If it doesn't stop until rush hour, we'll probably have over 12 inches.

Edited on Fri Dec-19-08 01:01 PM by marmar
My proclivities are for Middle Eastern, Indian, Japanese and Corned Beef sandwiches from the Bread Basket, so I'd never gone into Leo's until a coworker demanded that I go there. I'm glad I did.

25. It's a surprisingly nice place to eat. Yeah... it's a "diner menu" but pretty good.
Edited on Fri Dec-19-08 01:17 PM by TahitiNut
I like the folks who work there. They're all 'pros' and work hard to support themselves. The price is right and there are a lot of neighborhood regulars - older folks on fixed incomes.

I have a strong preference to patronize owner-operated places. The franchises and chains just don't give as much back to the local economy. The Star restaurant further south on John R is OK, too.

If you like Corned Beef at the Bread Basket then you'll LOVE Corned Beef at the Onion Roll Deli on Woodward, north of 11 mile!! The Onion Roll deli is the BEST I've found anywhere in the area! (The Bread Basket has gone down hill in the last 5-7 years.) I promise you, you'll love it. If you don't, I'll personally refund the cost of one corned beef sandwich ... and tell Alex (the owner-operator) you were unhappy.

Edited on Fri Dec-19-08 02:17 PM by notadmblnd
It's a machine with an auger type device on the front. You push it down the driveway like a lawn mower. It collects the snow and blows it into the neighbors yard.

32. I thought the evil grins smiliey and my southern name would point to the jest.
I gave up snow for Lent in 1980.
Haven't wanted it back.
Tho, in all seriousness, it did snow in my area twice in ..25 years or so.
2 inches.
Caused dozens of wrecks.

5. Heavy snow in Flint
I just went out to measure the snow depth - between 6 and 8 inches of snow on my front walk and it's still coming down. Unfortunately, it's no longer that nice, fluffy, big flake snow. It's looking a little more wet and sleety.

I am so glad I decided to take the day off.

12. I live along the I-69 corridor
Which is where the weather guys say the heaviest accumulation is expected. At this rate, we should have at least, if not more than, 12 inches. I hope I can get my driveway cleared, before the next snow hits, on Sunday.

10. it'll slow us down, but it won't stop us. Member, we all drive those gas guzzeling SUV's
That was sarcasm for those who might have missed it. But seriously, people are ready to start their winter break and this give us a very good excuse. We're going to be seeing lots of snowmen, snow angles and snow mobiles the next few days. In fact, I might round up the kids, snowboards, the portable outdoor fire pit and take them all to Bald Mountain for some sledding. I wonder if there's any good sledding at Stony Creek? I know their cross country ski trails get a lot of traffic at times like this.

17. After 9 years living in Rochester, NY, I'll be happy to NEVER hear the words "lake-effect" again.
The last winter I spent there (before moving to California), we had over 4' of snow on the ground for over 2 months. Fences and hedges were totally buried. Couldn't see out of the driveway. Snow was pile up alongside drive ABOVE MY HEAD (and I'm 6'2") and my Labrador Retriever ("Bo") had to "porpoise" through the snow in the backyard just to pee.

I was so happy to move to California after that! (I wish I could've stayed.)

I couldn't possibly tolerate the western side of Michigan ... both with "lade effect" and the DeVos-style politics. Yech.

14. Royal Oak here. I was even luckier
At 7:30 this morning I called in and heard a magical "Our Troy office will be closed today due to the weather" message. Which was smart. They would have sent us home at noon anyway, I'm sure. I've been going out to shovel every hour or so to keep up with it. Otherwise, I get 2 foot drifts in my driveway. Happy, happy Snow Day! (Cocktail time to commence in a couple hours. Whoot!)

My WONDERFUL neighbor just finished snow-blowing my driveway. I was out a bit earlier and it was all I could do without dosing myself up with painkillers to clear the porches and walk. My new snowblower hasn't been delivered yet. (Sigh.)
