One thing I have to give Bush credit for...
He out-smarted and out-maneuvered the Democratic Congress and Senate at almost every turn. From the very beginning, they knew he couldn't be trusted. Yet, they surrendered to almost every request from this White House. Granted, he used fear as his major card of negotiation but the Democrats fell for it every time.

From the Iraqi War Resolution to the bailout of the banks, the Democrats succumbed to the Bush plan. When he said that Saddam had WMDs, the Democrats did not ask him to prove it. They signed off on the invasion of Iraq - although they argue that is not what they signed off on. Nonetheless, that was the result and they did nothing about it.

And when he came in front of the people and the Congress, it was the majority of Democrats that went along with Bush and Paulson. Would they lie?? And now he wants the auto workers to give up more so they can also get a bailout? Will the Democrats go along with that? Don't bet the farm that they won't.

No matter how much he is despised by the average folk out here, he has ruled this Congress with an iron hand. He has gotten almost everything he has asked for and more. Hence, the condition we find ourselves in today...

1. Agreed,
and we can thank Reid and Pelosi for so much of what that smarmy prick got away with. For six years, granted, he had Congress in his pocket, but when Democrats took it in 2006, and Pelosi and Reid emerged as leaders, I expected a change. I expected better.

Boy, am I disappointed. I don't understand the lack of backbone, I don't understand the reluctance to do the right thing, I don't understand why they continued to cave into that fucker's demands. I don't understand.

I'll never understand.

2. Bush* was actually shocked at how successful he was.
Long before 9-11.. Every thing he proposed Democrats fell all over themselves getting it passed for Bush*. Usually the way politics works is you ask for the world and settle for somewhat less. Bush* asked for the world and got it every single time with no need to compromise or waivor. Democrats were still crapping all over themselves from their '94 blow out loss and in fact still are..

3. I can only buy this load of crap...
If I could buy the notion that the Democrats (as a party) weren't with him at every turn. Their portfolios blossomed as well when the Defense Industry cashed in on government handouts. I hardly heard them balking as they signed off on the IWR and the Patriot Act. Their feigned resistance deserves far more credit, in my opinion, because people still think they are the incorruptible "good" guys.

7. Giving him the rope to fuck himself with?
Edited on Fri Dec-19-08 02:28 PM by hughee99
Isn't that essentially saying Democrats were willing to let him fuck up the country so the GOP would look bad and Obama could come in and win? Frankly, given the choice, I'd rather think Democrats were weak or incompetent instead of willing to fuck everyone over for their political ends.

11. I don't think they're the bad guys either...
but if their strategy was to intentionally give Bush what he wanted so he'd fuck up the country (which I don't believe it was), then I'd be pissed at Democrats too.

9. Sometimes I wonder if it makes any difference...
who you vote for.

You vote in a Democrat Congress to offset Bush and he rolls over them like a tank.

There are days I wonder if we are not all fools and the "big boys" who actually run things laugh at our stupidity. It matters not who we elect, we just think we have a say. It's much easier to keep the slaves in line if they think they actually have a say in what is happening.

Maybe Mark Twain was right when he said,

“We have the best government that money can buy.”
