Speculation - why did Conyers hold up on issuing subpoenas?
Could it be that they already have solid evidence from the inside and are shoving it down Fielding's face? And Freddy boy may have said, I think I need to discuss this with my client. Give us a day to get back to you. In another post I referenced Schumers comment on KO, perhaps this may be tied together.

1. Perhaps also to put pressure
on people so that they might decide to tell the truth about higher-ups. With this and the information that DOJ folks down the chain of command are fed up and ready to talk--could be that they hope SOMEONE will decide to come clean to save their own skin.

8. backing down - don't think so
Someone posted early this morning that they had called Conyers' office and reached the man himself. Freaking imagine calling and Conyers himself picks up the damn phone. I'd flip!

Anyhow, JC had just spoken to someone else and repeated his assurance to the DUer that there would be no compromises with the WH.

Don't worry about them backing down - I think they are just being very smart. They want to nail these bitches as much as we do - maybe even more.

5. Yea...I am hoping this is the reason...
the thing is the Dems have to learn to hold their cards to their chest and play with poker mentalities. I don't know if it was wise for Schumer to give up the information.....I would gladly wait for the shit to hit the fan than ruin any potential because the Dems leaked information too early...

6. Not a single subpoena has been issued, right? By Leahy, Conyers, etc.?
All of the DU breathless subpoena talk aside, wake me up when one gets issued.

7. I think he's gonna wave it over Shrub's head like a sword of damocles
Effectively saying "Your last chance, either let them testify under oath, or I sign these"

I mean, he wouldn't go to the trouble of having the committee vote on the subpeonas if he wasn't going to use them

11. Didn't he tell them before voting on this issue that he would
be careful and cautious about having to serve them. In others words, not be hasty and immediately issue them? Maybe try negotiations once more before issuing? That was to help get the votes it seems. Maybe I'm wrong but that seemed to be the reporting on Conyer's remarks about using the subpoenas.
