Any Visiting Evangelical Relatives Over Holidays that you Convinced to Vote Kerry '08, Please Read
Edited on Mon Dec-22-08 08:54 PM by KoKo01
I convinced my "Repug/Fundie/ American Airline Pilot,Christian" Relative to vote for John Kerry in '04 and our relationship has been "cool" ever since. He is a hopeful person...he was upset with Bush...he didn't like Kerry but he voted for him. He voted for Bob Barr in '08. THESE are the FUNDIES we need to keep involved. Right now they
see both Dems & Repugs as EVIL...they want CHANGE...but Obama didn't do it for them after they voted for Kerry and saw their vote go down.

I sent him the Ohio Broadcast which "outs" what Connell was doing as well as your link to Fritakis in full link with text (he hates to to go to a site and have to download a link) and I'm hoping I can get him back into thinking differently than the Fundie Stuff he went back to after Kerry lost.

I hope other DU'ers will send the "full text" along to their Fundie Relatives they are hoping to get in touch with over the Holidays. But...I have to say...it's not worth losing friends or relatives over this holiday season to make a point with. Been there and Done that, and it's not worth it...go gently or don't do it at all. :-(

This Video might be the Best Thing to send them, though:

So many of our Relatives (especially the Fundies..believe EVERYTHING they see on TEE-VEE!

And...if that doesn't work...send them the "TEXT" of the Fritakas Article, here:

1. it's got nothing to do w. fundy or not fundy in my view, friend

in my case -- the relatives who voted kerry in 04 already swallowed a big enough frog in their throat to vote for a yankee

to vote for a black man they just couldn't do, i was hopeful but they were honest that they just...couldn't... however, they did stay home and that's all i can fairly ask

my relatives are not fundy but they are southern and some of the old generation, you know, they're old, they have trouble getting over prejudice, i don't think the best way is to hammer them or to discuss, to confront them is to freeze them in their path, rather...just let them see what happens and that it can only get better than bush, which none of them likes

i'm satisfied that if family members who liked obama voted and those who didn't like him stayed home, that's good enough, we get the result we needed, right?

2. I understand what you say...and it's not worth losing family or friends over

We need all the help and companionship we can have in the coming stressful times. It's the "crossovers" like my relative that I'm hoping to move a little towards reform that isn't what Bob Barr was looking for. I revised my OP to take out the "Fundie" because that's kind of misleading. I changed it to "Evangelical." (and BTW...i don't blame them ...my relatives...it was the way they found "community experience" in their church.) I just hope they can branch out. But, until others have something to offer them as real inspiration other than the local pastor who takes their money with false words...then maybe we just can hope that something better and more humane to all of us can be worked towards.

Just saying. Sorry my Original Post was sort of inflammatory...kind of cutting off discussion.

:hi:

3. i don't think your OP was inflammatory at all
i'm just sharing a different experience of it

it does make you wonder, because i KNOW for a personal fact that more people i know personally held their nose and voted for kerry than voted for obama...but finally the evildoers just decided there wasn't enough money left in america to steal i guess!

i'm more convinced that ever in my private mind that gore (verified by many studies) and kerry (considered more conspiracy theory) MUST have won the vote...

but obama got the landslide and that's what we needed

sweet plastic jesus i hate to think where we'd be with the mccain and palin right now
