Edited on Tue Dec-23-08 09:47 AM by nomad1776
In the spirit of the season, propose a gracious toast that starts with the words: "Despite our many disagreements...."

Note- This is not an orginal idea, but rather I saw it at Politico's Arena and thought it was a great idea.

2. *snort* I tried to do a smoothing over with my bil and sil over the past 8 years.
But I finally couldn't be around them any more. My sil realized that she was alienating her own brother and has become conciliatory (she also voted for Obama! about time...).

So in essence by just giving up ---saying you are welcome to kiss my ass, so to speak --- we got some movement on their part. Still don't know about him. He's just rigid.

16. We didn't exactly say kma. But we couldn't visit with them last summer
because we had "other commitments." My husband and I are both very liberal Dems and we were just too wrapped up emotionally in the Obama campaign and just couldn't stand the idea of being inthe same room with any Republican. My sil got the message, sulked for a while, then started emailing us again with bland stuff. Besides, we wanted to talk LOTS of politics and when they're with us we can't do that...

22. Its funny how sometimes silence says everything, isnt it?
Thats how it was with me and my bf's mom during the primaries. She's not a republican - but sometimes - it was just as bad. I feel your pain.

23. It was probably just as well, since at that time (August) I was close to the point
of losing it with any Republican within my sight. I probably would have lost my temper and going into a rant, which I was doing regularly about that time...

13. Despite our many disagreements
It would be wrong of me to deprive you of my company and influence in the hope that you will one day turn around. In the immortal words of Groucho Marx, "I may be wonderful, but I think you're wrong."

21. your're right, sadly it didn't take off in the intended direction
instead of taking a momement to say something nice about fellow DUers (especially the ones that you disagree with) most simply treated the idea as a joke.

20. The idea of taking a momement to show appreciation to your fellow posters
is hardly a suspect rightwing message or idea (in my opinion).

24. Your thread wasn't. Politico absolutely is.
Don't be so sensitive. No quarrel with your thread at all. The comment was directed at Politico, not you.
