Kansas broadcaster rejects profits from Obama ads because of pro-choice stand
By The Kansas City Business Journal

An Overland Park-based religious broadcaster may have been required to accept political ads it disagreed with, but it will not profit from those ads.

Bott Radio Network said it has donated income from political ads its stations aired for Barack Obama to anti-abortion groups.

A spokeswoman for the Overland Park-based company was not available for comment Monday, but a release quoted Executive Vice President Rich Bott as saying income from the ads amounted to “several thousand dollars.”

Bott Radio airs Christian programming on 81 stations reaching into 14 states. The broadcaster is required to accept paid political ads.

1. Frankly, as long as they aired the ads, I don't care what they did with the profits

That's American freedom at work.

They didn't restrict Obama's free speech... and nobody is restricting their freedom to donate their profits as they see fit.

2. That's how it's supposed to be........
Good for Bott Radio Network. They did the right thing - airing the ads - and then followed their beliefs by donating the profits.

Excellent.

4. Why is any broadcaster
required to accept paid political ads?

As long as you don't accept ads from just one platform or candidate....

5. They're not required..... but they can't accept from one and turn down others...

Once they've opened the can of worms and aired ONE political ad, they cannot reject others.

Not when they're on the public airwaves.
