"Thank you for doing this," said a man in his early 60's as he walked-up to the vigil and warmly shook my hand.

"I was in Vietnam," he stated. "I was in the Navy. I went in in 1965. Some of my friends didn't return." He fell silent for an instant, and then fighting back tears from the memories, he added, "A LOT of my friends didn't return."

Then he was quiet again for a moment. "Please forgive me for saying this but WAR SUCKS," he added, raising his voice to emphasize his point. "What you are doing is awesome," he said with a sigh and then slowly walked away into the cold, rainy night.
