USA steel production has dropped for the 12th
straight week. The production of steel for the week ending December 20th was 1,022,000 tons at 40.9% of capacity, down from 1,168,000 tons at 49% capacity the week of December 13th. In this period last year steel prodution was 2,102,000 tons at 88.1% of capacity. The last 3 months is the worst I have seen in 38 years.

1. Obama's bridge work in the recovery package will provide some help

I have a few friends across the River in Council Bluffs that have been locked out for the last 50 weeks at Griffin Pipe. No Merry Christmas for those USW members.

2. My employer is very dependent on the U.S. steel industry
Although, to their credit, they have managed to branch out a bit. But the downturn in United States steel production has definitely hurt us.
