Some U.S. Meat Plants Lose Right to Export to Mexico (Correct)

Dec. 26 (Bloomberg) -- About 30 U.S. slaughterhouses were refused certification to export meat to Mexico, the U.S. Department of Agriculture said, without giving a reason.

Some of the plants are owned by Tyson Foods Inc., the largest U.S.-based meat producer, and process poultry, pork and beef, a report on the USDA Web site showed. Facilities owned by Smithfield Foods Inc. were also included on the list of plants that can’t ship some meats to Mexico.

The move will probably hurt U.S. export sales, reducing demand for hogs, cattle and poultry and causing prices to fall, said Chris Lehner, the brokerage division manager at CommStock Investments in Royal, Iowa.

“Mexico is one of our better export destinations,” Lehner said. “It’s going to hurt at a time when financial problems are hurting the beef or pork industries.”

It's no secret (albeit neither a well-publicized one) that the US gubmint has decided to *prevent* (yes, not just *not enforce* but prevent) US meat packers from testing for BSE.

Swell ain't it?

Because it wasn't inspected properly, regulated or examined.

7. FDA inspection has dropped off.. Cut the Turkey @ my neighbor's house

I know how to cut a bird, but haven't bought one for a while.
Use to pluck a chicken, even broke its neck long ago. I know the
anatomy and undercooking and over cooking of a bird. I've bought range, shot ranged bought
organically feed, wild and supermarket birds.


This bird was tough in the breast, there was a tension between the lower breast
where I thought the muscles ran counter to what I had experienced cutting before.

I think the bird was hormone overdosed and pointed it out to my neighbor
the day after not to offend.


We discussed her Knife if it was sharp, however, I know how to test knives, chisels
and blades and sharpen mine by Japanese water stone.

Her Knife was sharp enough, I tested it by scarping the length of my fingernail
to see its sharpness. So I don't think my observation was far off.

Manufactured Animal Farms were banned this year in California


THAT WAS A GOOD THING!


If I eat animal, I still bless the food and life I ate in my mind to rationalize it.

10. Mexico Blocks Meat Imports Over Labeling
Trade tensions between the U.S. and Mexico worsened as Mexico blocked imports of meat from at least 30 U.S. meat processing plants.



The move, which took effect Wednesday, came about a week after the Mexican government filed a complaint at the World Trade Organization about a new U.S. law that requires labeling the origin of fresh beef and pork imported to the U.S.



U.S. trade partners are concerned the country-of-origin labeling policy will encourage American consumers to favor U.S.-raised meat. The law, which was included in the 2008 Farm Bill and took effect Sept. 30, requires supermarkets or other food retailers to label or otherwise display the country of origin for meat, produce and certain kinds of nuts.



Plants that process meat for Tyson Foods Inc., Smithfield Foods Inc. and other large beef, pork and poultry processors were among those listed as unable to sell meat into Mexico.



Last year, Mexico sold more than 870,000 head of live cattle to the U.S. to be partly raised and then processed into meat. The country's sales of live cattle here so far this year have fallen far below that. The Mexican government has said it thinks the new law could be partly to blame.
