Florida Man Hopes Invention Will Help Find Cancer Cure

This was news earlier this year. I hope that he is still alive to finish his project. He, himself suffers from Cancer. Since I have cancer, I wait in anticipation for the man to complete his project.

From the article:

"Now, some of the nation's most prominent doctors and scientists are using Kanzius' machines in their research. In January, researchers said they performed a breakthrough at the M. D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston.

"The complete killing of pancreatic cells in laboratory conditions is encouraging," Dr. Steve Curley said"

1. It's just a small twist on Royal Rife's quackery
I hope it cures cancer too.

2. Forgive me for being a pedantic electrical engineer, but...
Unlike current cancer treatment, Kanzius' machine does not use radiation.

In what world is an electromagnetic transmission not radiation?

3. Nice little red flag, isn't it?
Good catch.

5. It worked in lab rats.

Since I have cancer, I would voluteer to be treated with his machine. No one knows the horrors of Chemo and radiaton unless you experience it yourself. This could not possibly be worse.

8. It's just a red flag to me
I'm all for anything and everything that can be developed as an alternative to chemo and rad therapy. It just makes my warning bells go off if I see a basic error like that in reporting.

6. I'm thinking they're using laymen's terms -

perhaps they mean that this treatment doesn't radiate waves in the xray spectrum.

Unlike current cancer treatment, Kanzius' machine does not use radiation, and unlike today's radio-frequency treatments, it's noninvasive....

Kanzius explained that his machine uses a solution filled with nanoparticles, which measure no more than one-billionth of a meter. A test subject would be injected with either gold or carbon nanoparticles, which would make their way through the body and attach to the cancerous cells. The test subject would then enter the machine and receive a dose of radio frequency waves, theoretically heating and killing the cancerous cells in moments and leaving nearby cells untouched.

"That is the holy grail -- when they attach, and research has shown that they're able to kill them once they attach to the cancer cells," Kanzius said.

I don't know what radio-frequency treatments are used currently but an injection is invasive. I wonder how the body will rid itself of the gold or carbon nanoparticles after the treatment, and whether nanoparticles will attach to something other than cancer cells.

7. Actually, I think what they're trying to say...
is that it uses no radioactive substances.

Neither does chemotherapy, but hey... it's a story about a guy with his magic cancer curing radio. You can't expect much when it comes to scientific accuracy.

10. It's an internet meme. Like lolcat jargon.
On internet boards more... juvenile than DU.

It shows up like the tombstones do here, or whenever posters just want to be smartasses. It also has countless combinations and permutations. "User has jam with his toast," for instance.

4. This nut's been around for years.
But it's still funny every time it gets posted.
