What is the deal with the Marines in HI being "cool" when PE Obama
visited with them? I'm looking for all other mention of this (besides FR)and can't seem to find any info. Anything mentioned on MSM? I did see a pic on HuffPo yesterday of PE Obama shaking hands with one of the Marines. Any info?

2. You picked up info in Freeperland about troops not liking a Dem Prez...
and you want verification? Geebus, man, get a clue.

Have you ever heard any of the dozens of lies about Clinton spitting on soldiers? Every one starts as "an Army buddy of my brother told me this story..." It's all bullshit.

Did you see the reaction of the soldiers whenever candidate Obama visited them? It was pure ecstasy. Now that he's President, it will only get more vocal in support.

6. It is just RW crap. Here is an article saying they enjoyed having Obama there:
Edited on Sat Dec-27-08 05:53 PM by Pirate Smile
Obama with troops on Christmas

-snip-
Reporters were only allowed inside the mess hall for seven of the 68 minutes Obama spent greeting diners there. During that time they were clustered at a distance from the president-elect and could only hear bits and pieces of the conversations he was having at the tables.

But the service men and women seemed to enjoy having Obama crash their Christmas dinner — even though he didn’t eat.

Some seemed to be sending text messages from their cell phones when it became clear Obama was about to enter the room. They rose to their feet when Obama approached their tables and extended his hand.

"Congratulations," one of the service members said as Obama greeted his table.

http://www.politico.com/news/stories/1208/16858.html

edit to add - the link above states in the article "Shortly before Obama entered the room, a Marine shouted to the crowd scattered across 25 tables, "You need to take you seats, the president-elect is going to be coming." I think that would make people calm down and stay in their sets, etc. We don't know what else they told them to do before the press was allowed in the room.

10. Ha
:)

Go ahead and check DU. I know some of the reactions suck but someone will usually provide you the info. I saw some RW blog listed under blogs on Yahoo pushing that story line. There didn't seem to be anything to back it up. It seems like they tried to get everyone to calm down and stay in their seats before Obama came in. I edited my post above to add some info about that part.

14. I'm optimistic.
And I'm not known for my optimism...

Must have been brought on by the island-wide blackout last night. The radio stations were riotous. Some idiot from Akron, Ohio (Joe is that you?) called in and remarked that in Ohio it takes a major storm to knock out the power grid and not just a lightening storm. He was quickly informed that given the fact he's living on a volcanic island in the middle of the Pacific, we can't just pump power in from another grid. Oy vey!

17. Even if it were true, it would be irrelevant
Members of the military have the right to vote and express opinions as individuals. Collectively, however, the military is subservient to us and the president is its commander-in-chief.

The military has no collective say on the fitness of the president -- or the president-elect. As long as the president's orders pass constitutional muster, the military, collectively, must obey them.

Nothing original about that, I know, but it upsets me when I see the rightwing use the supposed dislike of the military for various Democrats as an argument against any of those Democrats becoming president.
