I've seen Bristol Palin attacked again and again, including being called "white trash". I think it is disgusting.

The Palin kids and babies should not be targeted for derision here. They didn't pick their mom.

Its also a bit to soap operaish, who had whose baby and so on.. the kind of thing I expect to see on gossip sites like TMZ and Perez Hilton. They have nothing to do with policy.

They're teenagers. They do dumb things. So far as I know, they haven't beaten any of my records. Falling over after a few too beers too many? Pfffft, that's nothing.

However, I have criticized Laura's drapery... and I may do the same for Michelle - it depends on if Mrs. Obama dresses like a Mississippi yard sale or not.

Obama was declared the winner--that ugly black and red thing she had on. I often like the clothes she wears, but that one--yuck! I think her taste is hit or miss. Sometimes she looks great--sometimes I really dislike what she has on. But that one dress really caused me to recoil.

Now, Laura's taste in clothes--usually a miss. She sometimes wears nice looking pantsuits, but most of her dresses and skirt suits look pretty dowdy. (She also needs to invest in better foudnation garments.)

if barack starts yapping about the amazing wonders of "abstinence only" and tries to promote such a program (and kill off sex-ed) in public schools and his underage daughters turn up pregnant then they would be fair game.

i really think all this has almost everything to do with the hypocrisy that bush and palin are covered in.

but the Bush twins were adults and did illegal things . and Bristol mattered mostly as a reflection of all the right wing ideals that Palin represented yet still had a pregnant daughter. so it was more about Sarah Palin than Bristol.

Freepers can make fun of Michelle's clothes all they want. but you know that's not all they are doing. and the racism in most of their attacks.

That having been said, this is an anonymous political forum and I find that a bit different that say, Rush Limbaugh blasting out his hurtful snarky ridicule towards Chelsey Clinton (a child, at the time) on his network of 600 or more radio stations nationwide, which is then repeated relentlessly by pundits and dittoheads, (and summarized in blog and other publications).

So, the concept may be equally wrong, but in reality, I'm not so concerned about what Freepers (or some DUers) might post in a thread, particularly given we're never going to stop people from doing so. Now anyone who would publicly embarrass Sarah Palins kids or grandchild in my presence would be on the receiving end of my considerable wrath (and perhaps a "dope slap or two" as the Car Guys of NPR would say) and certainly I'd be like a Mamma Bear with cubs if someone publicly did so to those darling Obama girls.

They are just a family that was put into the spotlight unfortunately because of a stupid decision by McCain's handlers. They are probably a very loving family and deserve better than to be insulted all the time. I agree that Sarah Palin went too far this election, but her family shouldn't have to suffer for it. I bet you that Bristol and Levi are pretty cool they just made a mistake but hey at least they were together for a few years. 1 in 3 girls get pregnant before they are 20 and a lot of the time it's with guys they meet for like a month or two.

I saw a thread with a picture of Laura Bush with people tearing her apart. She looks like an average sixty year old woman to me. Dresses a bit different, but her attire seems to be normal for her social circle.

As for Palin, there have been some mean comments, but all and all it has been better than I expected. Just imagine if a prominent Democrat had a teenager who had a baby out of wedlock with a future mother in law who is a suspected drug dealer. I am not justifying the behavior, but unfortunately people can get nasty. I have heard ZERO comments about the Palin family in public but have heard people comfortably state that Obama went to Hawaii to "take care" of the Grand Mother situation before the election

And as I was one of the few people on DU who took a public stand against trashing Pickles' taste in clothing, I'll have no trouble dismissing that one, too.
