Why conservatives make terrible professors
"For me, the saddest part about the terrorist attacks of 9-11 is the long-term impact on the presidency of George W. Bush," wrote Tony Campbell, an adjunct professor of political science with Maryland-based Towson University

2. Conservatives don't think openly
They allow others to tell them what their opinions are and make tough decisions about politics and other aspects of life. The only thing they have to think about is breathing.

3. Aha
"Campbell worked for the Bush transition team in 2000, and was appointed to the Social Security Administration by the outgoing president."

4. To be an effective college professor (this goes for journalists, as well)...
...one has to be dynamic and open-minded. Conservatives, by nature and by design, are the antithesis of dynamicism and open-mindedness.

Conservatives, or, as they used to be known, know-nothings...

6. Meh. Thats one professor. You shouldn't broad brush
My uncle is a semi-retired college professor of political science (calls himself a moderate) who has worked at such notable places as Georgetown Univ,American Univ, and Catholic University.
There are bad liberal college professors and there are good liberal college professors. There are bad conservative professors and good conservative professors.
One should not stereotype people based on political belief (don't get me started on the conservatives are dumb meme...I've met some pretty smart ones)

9. Conservatives have shown a disdain for science and the scientific method
The nature of these jobs require one to be open to new ideas and be willing to think in very complex terms. All these traits have been driven out of the republican party and the conservative ideology. Smart equals bad, to the average conservative. If it can't be stated in a sound bite, it isn't worth stating, is another one.

There was a time when there were intellectual conservatives and that conservatives made reasonably good professors. That all went the way of teaching creationism in schools and when their heroes became Ronald Reagan, George Bush Jr and Sarah Palin.

Look at how conservatives have handled the scientific issue of global warming. They made it a political issue.

14. Thats neocons for the most part. Old school conservatives still exist.
Trust me...my Uncle has some rather nasty things to say about some preeminent LIBERALS who have served as college professors so its unfair to judge one's teaching ability by one's political views.
My Uncle also leans democratic but has a lot of respect for certain conservatives one of whom gets bashed here on a daily basis.
I will say *some* are closed minded and don't make the best teachers but there are some genuinely intelligent and thoughtful ones, to deny that is to deny reality. Some of the most fascinating and enlightening conversations I have had have been with thoughtful conservatives.

16. My best Poli-Sci Prof...
Sometimes I think we as Progressives are just as bad as everyone else in our guilty and visceral desire to maintain and continue the culture wars and the Us. vs. Them style of thought.

My best Poli-Sci Prof (from many moons ago), was a self described conservative, and he alone did more to open my eyes to my own political awakening more so than than the other three.

He was also a former marine and a former Secret Service agent for Pres. Ford's wife, and told us a lot of anecdotes about that particular administration. :P

That's the one thing conservatives think he handled well even if the rest of us know differently.

13. Aw, and Georgie's presidency never recovered from Katrina, either.
I've been so thoughtless. How on earth did I not realize that every event of the last 8 years should be evaluated solely on how it affected George W. Bush????
