EXCLUSIVE: RNC draft rips Bush's bailouts

EXCLUSIVE:

In what would amount to a slap in the face to a sitting Republican president and the party's Senate and House leaders, national GOP officials, including the vice chairman of the Republican National Committee, are sponsoring a resolution opposing the resort to "socialist" means to save capitalism.

"We can't be a party of small government, free markets and low taxes while supporting bailouts and nationalizing industries, which lead to big government, socialism and high taxes at the expense of individual liberty and freedoms," said Solomon Yue, a cosponsor of a resolution that would put the RNC -- the party's national governing body -- on the record as opposing the U.S. government bailouts of the financial and auto industries.

Republican National Vice Chairman and constitutional law attorney James Bopp Jr. authored the resolution and is asking the rest of the 168 voting members of the committee to sign it.

"The resolution also opposes President-elect Obama's proposed public works program and supports conservative alternatives," while encouraging the RNC "to engage in vigorous public policy debates consistent with our party platform," Mr. Bopp said.

1. Q: How do you know something is not socialist?
A: When Republicans claim it is.

2. "Resort to 'socialist' means to save capitalism"?
Edited on Tue Dec-30-08 09:39 AM by MN Against Bush
Do these people even realize how stupid that sounds? The Bush Administration is all about pure crony capitalism, these bailouts have nothing to do with socialism they have everything to do with further enriching their already very rich friends.

6. They are just laying the foundation to re-write history.
They want people to connect socialism with Bush, so when they call Democrats socialists, people will think of Bush.

Never mind REPUBLICANS supported Bush lock-step to create the mess in the first place.

3. How convenient
They seemed to shut up awfully quick when the bush pushed through the Paulson plan. There were a few squeaks from newbie repuke House members, but they quieted down after every one ignored them and started counting votes.

But now they come out swinging, just in time to trash the Obama plan for recovery.

Obstructionists to the bitter end, Republicons will never allow our country to get out from under their 2nd great depression.

4. That's exactly it; they're getting in line to bash the new plan.
Amazing considering these people must have constituents who need jobs, but there it is. Obstructing Dems is apparently more important that doing the right thing for the country.

7. Its clear Republicans really haven't learned a thing
small government, free markets and low taxes have been their motto for forever now. They never really do any of those things.

8. "At the expense of individual liberty and freedoms"
How very strange. I don't recall Solomon Yue or James Bopp, Jr. being too terribly strident when the hideously misnamed USA PATRIOT Act was ram-rodded through Congress. Or when the phone companies lined up to sell out their customers to Bush's Homeland Security snoops. Or when people were rounded up and detained indefinitely without counsel, a hearing or even a charge against them.

But now, when it appears safe to do so, Messrs. Yue and Bopp are all set to denounce "big government" and have a "vigorous public policy debate." Where were they when folks critical of the Bush administration back in 2001, 2002 and 2003 were being called traitors?

Fucksticks.

9. Absent In Any Of That Is Explaining "Why?"
We can't resort to socialist means to save capitalism. Why not? If that works, why can't we do that?

Of course, since they just use "socialism" as a buzzword, they really can't explain themselves.
