Today's Washington Post had only 7 job ads
I have never seen it this bad in more than 18 years as a Post subscriber. I was looking at the ads because my husband got laid off last week.

Yes, it's the week between Christmas and New Year's, and there are fewer ads at this time of year. But
I think this meager list of jobs speaks volumes about the direction in which our economy is heading, thanks to the unfortunately still current president and his Misadministration.

Here's the job list:

Auto body painter
Auto body tech
Driver
Movie extras
Receptionist
Recreation and amusement attendant
Roofing/sheet metal

In the same Post classified section, I counted 32 trustee sales and auction notices for homes that were probably lost due to foreclosure. Again, that speaks volumes for what Bush and his rich banking cronies have done to our country and its people.

it may be thin also in part to the holidays -- I noticed that when I was job hunting a while back.

2. I bet the biggest employer in WaPo's range is the federal government....

with the possible exception of defense contractors.

I doubt any federal agencies are hiring *right now*, but I suspect there will be a flurry of new job postings towards the end of January.

Still... it's a pretty sad state of affairs.

3. It took my daughter's bf 4 months to find a job here
They moved back here from New Orleans in August. He was sending out as many as 60 applications a day. He's got a degree in business administration and works as a business administrator for law firms. He never had a problem finding work until now.

5. Send off a letter to the Post
I think these observations might be of general interest to the Post and its readers. Of course, it would be in the worst possible taste to point out what you do in the last sentence of your post. Especially if you recall for the Post's readers that this administration's policies were heavily and unquestioningly endorsed by the Post. That would be very, very wrong.

6. I am pleased to say I have experience in every one of those jobs except movie extra
Edited on Tue Dec-30-08 10:06 AM by ThomWV
Isn't that something? I actually have some credentials for each one of those jobs except movie extra, and as it happens I am originally from the Washington DC area. Maybe I should have stayed around the area for the job opportunities. Just kidding. Tell your husband to get out there and get one of those movie extra jobs.

9. I'm sure that's a factor too.
But craigslist seems fairly thin as well.
