Charles Barkley arrested on suspicion of DUI
SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. – Charles Barkley was arrested on suspicion of drinking and driving early Wednesday morning.

An officer with a law enforcement task force that targets drunken driving saw the former NBA star run a stop sign around 1:30 a.m., said Gilbert police Lt. Eric Shuhandler.

Barkley declined to submit to a breath test but was given a blood test. The results weren't immediately available.

After Barkley was processed, he was cited and released. He left in a cab, Shuhandler said.

Shuhandler said there was nothing remarkable about Barkley's arrest and that it is customary to release people after they've been arrested on suspicion of DUI.

"There was nothing unusual about how he was taken into custody," Shuhandler said. "He was treated exactly like we treat anybody else."

2. I sense if he agreed to a blood test
then he was not drunk.......he is probably really pisst off as well. He has political aspirations.

5. I sense he didn't want his driver license automatically
suspended if he agreed to a blood test.

6. It almost did
Bush was ahead in most polls prior to the DUI story coming out the weekend before the election.

4. Really?

He refuses a breath test and was released? No "overnight stay" to "sleep it off?" What was he cited for then if not DUI? I have no doubt the police release those suspected of DUI--eventually--but right after they refuse a breath test and before the results of the blood test are known? Does he keep his license?

8. Good point. I guess since he took a cab they were okay with it. And I
bet that isn't how they'd treat the next drunken Charlie they picked up that night for the same thing.

and after sitting as a juror on a DUI trial, i would choose the blood test too over the breath test.

7. Now can I go back to calling him a fucking Republican millionaire again?
I mean, not while he's in the same room with me, of course. I'm far too courteous to insult a celebrity to his face.

Plus I'm allergic to being thrown through barroom windows.
