"I'm Gonna Blow Your B!*#* Off!"

According to reports, the woman had been shopping at the Berkeley Whole Foods and was returning to her car when a man approached her.

The man told her to give him all of her money. According to a Berkeley Police Department statement, a "physical and verbal altercation ensued." That is when she went into her van to get the money.

When he got into her van - she said she grabbed his gun while it was still in his hand and said, "I'm gonna blow your balls off."

She said the robber then punched her before attempting to get behind the wheel of her van in order to drive it away. That is when she began stabbing him in the leg, shoulder and neck area with scissors she had in the center console. He then got out of the van and ran away.

I think I would probably cause an intentional accident by crashing into a tree or pole or something. Maybe even without thinking, as I'd be scared shitless and it would probably happen anyway...

My guess is that she went on autopilot. Regardless, I'm happy she got out of it alive.

And fate and adrenaline pretty much takes it from there.

You should perhaps review some stats on this topic, especially the subset where women are the victims. If you can run off, that's fine, but that's not always possible. And if you can't, you'd better fight if you want to survive. Simple as that.

I am saying what are people that fight back trying to prove. In this case she was able to go to the car to get some money. That would tell me she wasnt in the car all the way when the attacker jumped in. It would seem like plenty of time to take off. The only reason she is alive is because the guy didn't have it in him to kill anyone (thank god). I don't care how good of a fighter you are, if you are going for someone's gun they have more than enough time to pull the trigger if they are infact willing to kill you. After she saw that he didn't pull the trigger there was no reason to keep fighting, running off would have been fine (eventhough you already made one fatal mistake). Provoking the gunman further by stubbing him is just stupid.

Being smart and alive is a lot better than being brave and dead. Just my personal opinion.

If someone forces you into a car with them at gunpoint, if you DON'T fight back in some way, you'll most likely end up dead. The attacker may have been physically holding on to her, too. We don't know. But to say categorically that you should just "run off" is incredibly naive and short-sighted. Sometimes you CAN'T run off; in that case, you fight.

Kick, scream, yell, stab, run...do whatever it takes because the second destination is where people end up dead.

Pulling a trigger takes a couple milliseconds. The only reason this woman is alive is because the attacker didn't have it in him to kill anyone, he was just out for the money. If he had in fact been capable of killing this story would have turned out much different.

I just pray that if anything like this every happens to you you take the smart way out, I dont want to see you on the news with the headline "tried to be a hero, now dead".

She had enough time to get in the car to get some change, when I go to grab change from my car I never get in all the way. in addition the gun man would have to get in the car using the other door. There is opportunity number 1 to get away, she didn't take it, maybe she was afraid he would shoot, fine. She then went for the attackers gun at which point he didn't shoot. There is opporunity 2 to get away, you now know he won't shoot you, just run the fuck off. What did she decide to do instead? Provoke the gunman by stabbing him while he still had control of the gun. If you think that's an act of courage and not stupidity then I don't know what to tell you.

My sisters and I used to pull that one when we were younger and we pissed off our mom...er, not the car...we'd hide under our beds and she would try to poke us out with the broomstick.

The one thing the safety experts do agree on is to never, ever get in a vehicle with an assailant. Better to take the chances she did with the gun and scissors than willing get in the vehicle!

The account makes it sound like she still had the gun in her possession after threatening to blow his balls off. Which makes me wonder why she didn't just shoot him after he punched her and attempted to get behind the wheel.
