Roland Burris' Monumental Ego (TPM)
Monumental Ego
Hey, he may be a wonderful guy, but I'm not sure he's going to get the chance for all those Senatorial accomplishments to be added. We shall see... But certainly, he plans ahead.

Senator-designate Roland Burris already has a lavish -- and expensive! -- cemetery plot/temple constructed for him and his wife under the seal of the state of Illinois listing his many marvelous accomplishments.

1. you have TPM as the author
. . .but it's actually a Politico hit job.

Find me something relevant to voters to judge him, not this bullshit.

2. I cite TPM because they were my source, in addition to original

source, that I also include as a link. If you read my comments, I make clear that it is an interesting side piece and has nothing to do with his qualifications, albeit speaks loudly to his personal ambitions.

Calm down, bigtree. There will be a lot coming out about your favorite pol. Some of it good, some bad, some consequential, some not. Take a breath. He's lucky to have such a dedicated supporter. If he has many like you, I'm guessing he might have a chance at holding that appointment and being seated.

4. I only get attracted to these issues on the merits

The personalities are politicians; not always compelling enough to hold my interest or support.

There's a mob mentality toward the Governor which threatens to knock a good man (Burris) down and there is a Senate seat which I'd like to see filled as soon as possible. If possible, look at my comments through that lens, rather than assuming I'm just cheerleading.

3. Why don't you worry about your own state's problems?
Roland Burris is a good man, deeply respected in this state. The first African American to hold statewide office. Three terms as state comptroller. State attorney general. Republicans and Dems respect him, Chicagoans and downstaters. There's never been a whiff of corruption anywhere near him.

As for listing his accomplishments on his mausoleum, he really has a huge list of accomplishments. If he and his family want those accomplishments remembered, how the hell is that your business?

If Burris had won the 2002 primary, none of this mess would ever have happened. Why did he lose? Because he's never been a part of the Chicago machine. It's that machine that's created the situation we have now.

All because Burris lost the primary in 2002. Illinois Dem leadership have no one to blame but themselves for this. They should have backed Burris in 2002.

I don't deserve that... at all.

Burris may be the best candidate Blog could have named, but this has national implications and the national media (and all Democrats) are going to have him under a magnifying glass. That is just the fact. If Burris is the best man for the job, I share your hope that he will rise above the political forces that have nothing to do with him and take his seat in the Senate. He may have been foolish to take the appointment under these clouded and uncertain circumstances but we shall see. It is a mess and I share your desire not to lose a good man to unfortunate circumstances beyond his control.

10. More people should buy plots before they die.
What do I care if he lists his accomplishments on it?
