Matt Dillon arrested for speeding in Vermont (clocked at 106 mph)

(Reuters) - Hollywood actor Matt Dillon was arrested and charged with driving at an excessive speed after police clocked him traveling at 106 miles per hour on a Vermont interstate highway.

The star of the 2004 movie "Crash" was pulled over at about 10 p.m. on Tuesday in the town of Newbury after he was caught on police radar traveling north at high speed in a rented 2009 Chevrolet Impala, said Vermont State Police Sgt. Tara Thomas.

The New York-based 44-year-old actor is scheduled to appear in Vermont's Orange County Court on January 21. If convicted, he faces a maximum penalty of three months in jail and a $300 fine.

8. Didn't you know?
The horse was high.

NEVER come into town on a high horse, much less speed on one.

11. 30- 35mph over the posted limit is usually reckless driving- and then some.
laws vary from state to state.

7. I actually understand the temptation to speed on that stretch of road
Little traffic, nice road. I've often cruised at 85 on 91 above Bradford.

21. I'm 62 and I often go faster than that on my motorcycle
Every now and then I crank it up and go a good bit faster than that but I have to tell you, I have been passed like I was in reverse when going a lot faster than that on public roads. There are motorcycles that anyone with twelve grand in their pocket can buy that will go over 200 mph, available at your local Kawasaki or Suzuki dealer.

23. I sat on a sport bike recently (actually a Can-Am Spyder), and in
just a few minutes my 66 yr old hips and knees were hurting. Spoke with a guy who said he had been 180 mph on that three wheel lovely.

I'll stick to my cruiser, and the random spurts of speed.

27. Great car. My wife has one.
So people do buy them and like them. Good on gas without sacrificing speed to merge into traffic or to get up a hill.

What's your problem?

28. Very Stupid. They have places for that
they are called racetracks and they have track days. A rental car will have shit tires and possibly shit brakes. Sadly when stupid people doing this stuff hit other people they never die. Mom and kids are usually on the slab.

The amount of time to stop at speed is not linear. Car going 100 mph has 4 times more energy than a car going 50.

I speed, but not double the limit. I have driven roads where it was appropriate to do but have no urge to get locked up. In some states they put you in jail for that.
