The Bushie that Obama is keeping in the Pentagon is a real doozy
While 90 Bush pentagon guys got the pink slip another 160 get to keep their jobs and get to keep on pushing the GOP agenda at the pentagon.

One of the keepers, Jim O'Beirne, the special assistant to the secretary of defense for White House liaisons, is a real piece of work. He is married to the conservative commentator Kate O'Beirne. He sent an email to the workers being fired consoling them saying: "content yourself with the likelihood that it was your outstanding performance as a Bush appointee that drew the opposition's attention to you."

Obama is the opposition to him. O'Beirne's boss's new boss is considered to be the opposition to this key guy in Pentagon/White House liaisons.

What makes matters worse, this is the guy who picked the people to send to Iraq for Iraq's reconstruction after Shock and Awe

Per WaPo:

But before they could go to Baghdad, they had to get past Jim O'Beirne's office in the Pentagon.

To pass muster with O'Beirne, a political appointee who screens prospective political appointees for Defense Department posts, applicants didn't need to be experts in the Middle East or in post-conflict reconstruction. What seemed most important was loyalty to the Bush administration.

O'Beirne's staff posed blunt questions to some candidates about domestic politics: Did you vote for George W. Bush in 2000? Do you support the way the president is fighting the war on terror? Two people who sought jobs with the U.S. occupation authority said they were even asked their views on Roe v. Wade.

Any bets on how many of the 160 other keepers went through a similar screening process?

Why are any of these guys being kept? And most of all why is O'Beirne?

Props to TPM's muckrakers for most of the info in this OP.

2. Yup one and the same.
another very unsettling fact about her is that she is/was an active member of the Board of Governors of the right-wing Catholic Ave Maria Law School in Ann Arbor. Ave Maria Law School was founded by Domino’s founder Tom Monaghan to educate a new generation of conservative anti-abortion lawyers. Also rabidly anti-gay.

Mr. Kate O'Beirne is to continue spreading the rabid right credo at the Pentagon.

26. That Was A Different Right Wing Harpie

Her name is Janet Parshall

O'Bierne used to be on CNN until her hubby's sleazy dealings came out...notorious chain smoker and overall bore. A person whose 15 mintues went 15 minutes too long.

Hopefully her war criminal hubby gets sued and gets exposed.

10. Sure, it was at the TPM Muckraker site. Here it is
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2006/09/16/AR2006091600193_pf.html

It is a long article with lots of very interesting details about how GOPers screwed up Iraq because of their partisan screening.

Gates wanted to keep certain people as a condition of staying at Defense. This has been reported in the press. These people will be around as long as Gates is.

19. According to a writer at the Wash. Times, O'Beirne was also dismissed...
The notice was sent by retired Air Force Maj. Gen. J. Scott Gration, a senior adviser to President-elect Barack Obama who is likely to be named to a senior position at the Pentagon.

Mr. O'Beirne sought to explain why most of the appointees were kept on but the 90 officials were let go, stating that he believed politics, not job performance, was the main factor. "If your work was associated with matters regarding which there is a probability of policy change in the Obama Administration, then I think you were affected," he said.

Mr. O'Beirne, who is among those dismissed, compared the ousted officials to the young special-forces captain fighting in the early days of the Afghan war high in the Hindu Kush mountains.

37. The Moonie Times is the only one saying that
all the others do not state that O'Beirne is fired. Can't find any other reference to that effect on any Google search.

In fact opinion pieces in The Hill, the Washington Monthly and several others all talk about O'Beirne probably being a one of the short timers. That he will be in the first batch to go once vacancies are filled and the transition period has had time to settle.

32. The Keepers
No doubt ... why are these people being kept?

How many people did Shrub keep from the Clinton administration? Any?

I'm sick of not knowing exactly who all the executive branch appointments are.

I seem to remember a web site that tracked every single administrative appointment position. I wonder whatever happened to that site?

Sadly, I can't find the link I had to the site, but in trying to find any kind of site similar to what I remember, I know there's nothing out there.

I'm not talkin' about the cabinet level positions, I'm talking about all the others who can have a huge impact on the agencies they work for.

I bet we don't even know who these people are.

This is the real "power" of the executive branch and the people who elect the president should know about the people he or she appoints.

These GOP scumbag leftovers in DoD need to watched and monitored, and then the executive branch should be held accountable if these losers fuck shit up.

Post a link to a web site that monitors, lists, and details ALL executive branch appointees ... I'd really like to see it.
