1. I totally agree, but you might want to check out DU's front page:

Cokie Roberts is not the only one subject to this kind of hysteria.

2. I am so fucking sick of this bullshit.
Everyone - EVERY LAST PERSON - knew that if Blago made an appointment that it would receive this treatment. It could have been Jesus Christ's resurrected corpse and it STILL would be the exact same thing Burris is getting. We all bemoan Republicans playing identity politics, but we have to look in a mirror a bit on this one.

5. and if the Dems approved him, the Repukes would be making all the appearances in the "liberal media"
decrying how the Dems are happy to accept the "corrupt Blago's right-hand-man" ...

10. I remember a memo by a high-up which said that they must avoid even the mere
hint of impropriety ... but that was Bush ... and he pretty much coddled criminals, pardoned them, or wiped out any effective punishment they would have "suffered" (country club prison, if that), and in some cases gave them medals!

7. Maybe we need to not worry about changing the political system to be EQUAL
work with the knowns, not the unknowns, or the unknown known unknowns.

3. Appearances count, unfortunately.
It has to do with the Article 1, Section 5 and the 17th Amendment to the US Constitution and Chapter 10, Act 5, Article 25, Section 8 of the Illinois Compiled Statutes, but that's all getting lost in the media hoopla.

4. Like it or not this is going to backfire on the democrats
And the repugs and their allies (i.e the MSM) will use this as a wedge between them and african-americans. Especially young african americans, saying their really not that much different than repugs.

6. well harry maybe you should`t have had a "friendly chat"
with our governor about who you think the voters in illinois should vote for. i know we ain`t as smart as the rest of the country but we have elected two -black-senators. ya harry--you were "caught on tape"

burris is the best we have at this point in time.since harry poisoned the other politicians he mentioned there`s no one that would take the job. so it is burris or no one until blago is impeached, resigns, or convicted. i guess harry wants to gamble on those facts.

9. It Also Has To Do With An Inept Illinois Democratic party
As usual, the Cokester speaks from her ass...the only place she gets her information these days. Being the media creature she is, she must have done all her "research" at the cocktail parties and playing telephone with her "sources" (or voices in her head). Facts? To hell with those, they only take away her fun to pontificate and pretend she knows what the hell she's talking about.

If she had followed the situation, first of all, Blago is still the legally elected governor and according to the state constitution, he's within his right to make this nomination. The Illinois legislature could have passed a law to strip that power and call for a special election, but they got cold feet. Burris, while no Barack Obama, is a loyal Democrat who succeded despite his race, not because of it. Leave it to the corporate media to play up the race issue here and shame on those here in Illinois (Blago especially...and yes, I want to see him go) who are playing this cynical and destructive game.

I find it amazing that Illinois is getting the attention despite the fact we're the only state to have elected both a male and female African-American to the Senate. Let's see other states make the same claim...then I'll listen to the "racist" bullshit.
