President-elect Obama hits Washington with economic policy on his mind
New York Daily News

WASHINGTON -- Barack Obama hit Capitol Hill Monday morning in his first working day in Washington as president-elect, meeting with legislative leaders in hopes of jumpstarting his economic recovery program.

Sitting down with House Speaker Nancy Pelosi first, Obama and she both signaled that the economy was their top priority.
"The reason we are here today is because the people can't wait. We have an extraordinary economic challenge ahead of us," Obama said before going into a closed-door meeting with Pelosi.

"The Speaker and her staff have been extraordinarily helpful in working with our team so we can shape an economic investment and recovery plan that will start to put people back to work," Obama said.

Sources have told the Daily News that it's unlikely the House and Senate will be able to put together a massive economic stimulus package worth up to $1 trillion by the time Obama is inaugurated on Jan. 20.
