1. He reminds me of my two ex-husbands. Rarely a day went by when
they didn't rile me one way or the other (and that's in the bad way, not the good way)......

4. he followed the law, what's the beef?
Burris needs the SoS of IL to sign off

Franken has to wait for the same thing when the lawsuits are settled

what's the problem here, Reid followed the law, what a refreshing change eh?

6. He followed a Senate *rule*, which isn't the same thing.
The Senate rule requiring the SOS's signature goes beyond the requirements of the 17th Amendment (which IS 'the law'), making that requirement 'extra-constitutional'.

8. SOS already ratified Franken. And the SOS of Illinois doesn't have the right to deny signing off.
Edited on Tue Jan-06-09 05:30 PM by saracat
If Reid were "following the law"' he would seat Franken and Burris. He has been saying he won't seat Burris no matter what because he feels the appointment is "tainted". Blog may prove to be "tainted" in the future but right now, he isn't convicted, indited or anything but accused. He has the legal right to appoint that Senate seat.

13. agreed, the SoS of IL is giving Reid cover
and I'd have no problem with Burris getting seated but I'm not mad at Reid for holding it up.

as for Franken, they need to wait til Crybaby Coleman runs out of $$ or lawsuits

19. SOS of Minn has not certified Franken. The Election Board has. Franken can't be seated
Edited on Tue Jan-06-09 07:32 PM by OmmmSweetOmmm
until certified by the Gov and SOS. They will not seat him until the lawsuits by Coleman are over. That is Minnesota law.

5.  Me! Me ! Me!. I wonder if he is even a Dem since he seems so
reluctant to seat Democratic senators! Franken has been certified and he won't seat him because he doesn't want to "anger the GOP' ? Burris was appointed by a legally elected Governor who has not yet been indited, convicted, or removed from office and he won't seat him( though he says he is a good man with no blemish on his reputation) because there are unproven accusations against the Governor who appointed him? Say what? We have a crashing economy, war breaking out everywhere and Reid is obsessed with this?

We have a new president and it is time to get to work and buckle down and save the nation, not squabble over political grudges. I really dislike Reid. He is likely the most suspect pol of all.

11. Stupid Fucking Reid - Republicans will love help getting their hands on two more 6 year senate seats
Edited on Tue Jan-06-09 05:24 PM by LaPera
And Stupid Fucking Harry Reid is giving the republicans all the help they want & need!

1) Republicans want an election in Illinois (instead of a democratic Gov appointment that is the law).

What would the republican do....they would of seated their legally appointed republican senator and told the Dems to fuck off...It's legal - Stupid Fucking Reid!

2) Let the republicans have a shot at Franken instead of seating him, since he was announced & certified the winner.

What would the republicans have done....They would of seated the republican winner and said you prove he's not the winner, he's our senator by law until then - Stupid Fucking Reid!

Stupid Fucking Weak-kneed Reid - So deathly afraid of his friends & masters, the republicans!

12. I'm waiting for him to start vetoing the bills Blagojevich signs.
Sen. Reid seems to think that he can say what the legally-elected, unconvicted and unimpeached Governor of the State of Illinois can and can't do, apparently...

20. Aye, there's the rub-- the Senate rules.
The requirement that Senator-designate Burris have Sec. of State White's signature on the appointment document is a Senate rule, whereas Gov. Blagojevich's signature is required by law.

18. Actually I think Harry Reid has been stunningly consistent on this:
Neither Al Franken nor Roland Burris had suitable paperwork per Senate rules to be seated.

Now let me be clear, I think that both should be seated and would not have card if he had seated both, but to have tried to seat Franken and deny Burris based on the intentional technicality would have been wrong.

but further, I don't believe Reid had my reasoning in mind nor was he acting with any gumption, that was just the outcome.
