About this Panetta thing ......
I've been thinking about this.

See, here's the thing. You remember Porter Goss' stint as CIA head? The Night Of The Long Knives? The clearing out of anyone who wasn't a hard right neocon nutbag? You remember that?

These people are trained prevaricators and deceivers. They live and breath that shit. They lie as a profession. It is what they do. That's not a criticism. It is an observation.

And we're going to think that Leon Panetta - or any other person not fully and totally immersed in that culture - is going to 'manage' them? Say what you will about Panetta being a good guy or a smart guy or any other positive spin you want to try to put on this. I fear they'll have him for lunch.

How about one of the liberals who Goss fired or who quite in protest at the busholinis' heavy handedness at the agency? Would not that sort of person be a better choice? One that comes to mind is that guy who was head of European clandestine ops. His name escapes me ..... Buemiller .... Baumiller ..... Beaumiller, maybe?

This is a job that demands a person steeped in the business ...... not a 'good manager'.

1. You might consider this:
Panetta's not going into that job all alone. He'll have a huge staff comprised almost entirely of CIA veterans.

And they'll do the heavy lifting. That's how the CIA has always been run.

3. And therein lies my concern
How will he know who is telling the truth?

One steeped in that culture and expert at it is far more likely to know who is and isn't.

5. At that level, and
given all the recovery the CIA needs at this point, he's going to be well-served.

You can imagine the vetting that will go on when that staff is put together, can't you?

This has been done many times before. It took Cheney and his thugs and Bush's whore appointees to fuck up the system. But, they're going to recover and they're grateful that they're getting people who aren't out to make them the patsies.

2. Its Much Ado About Nothing.....why? Because
Mrs. Feinstein (Sen. Feinstein) is worried...worried because she wasn't consulted....because she knows where the Iraq contracts are buried! She is afraid we'll find out how much her hubby pocketed from the Iraq War reconstruction fund.

6. Feinstein needs to STFU
She is in it for the $$$$$ - She quit being a real liberal long ago - she is a DINO. Her husband and his connections should be a gigantic red flag. It's called CONFLICT OF INTEREST.

Panetta will be fine. Why? Well, the CIA is a real mixed bag of rotting, festering shit... I do not want any of the insiders from the CIA to be running that freak show - Panetta is a tough cookie - he is as smart as you get in D.C. - He is a straight shooter compared to what we have endured over the last several years. I am pleased with the pick.

No - you are so wrong about needing to be a lifer of the spook squad- The job does take excellent management skills and MORALITY is a plus. When Panetta was CoS he proved he could be trusted. We do not need more of the inside CIA people - - :)
