One of the largest Soviet naval bases is in Sevastopol, Ukraine. It is the location of the Russian Black Sea fleet, and is leased to Russia by Ukraine for 20 years which ends in 2017.
So in 2017 if the US/NATO decides to offer a substantially higher price for that "real estate" then Russia will have NO problem with Ukraine seeking higher market price for its property. They will gladly accept the loss of force projection in Black Sea and close proximity of a NATO facility? Right?
Sometimes Russia amazes me in their stupidity. Russia needs the Ukraine for a lot of reasons. Constantly stabbing your allies in the back may come back to haunt you eventually.
