Pat Buchanan's advice to Obama: Reagan bet on private sector & succeeded, FDR bet on gov't & failed
Obama's choice — FDR or Reagan
Buchanan: The president and his Democrats are taking a historic gamble

By Patrick Buchanan
Political analyst
MSNBC
updated 9:26 a.m. PT, Fri., Jan. 9, 2009

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/28579400/

Harding, Coolidge, JFK and Reagan all bet on the private sector as the engine of prosperity. All succeeded. Franklin Roosevelt bet on government. And the New Deal failed. It was World War II that pulled the United States out of the Depression ditch of the 1930s.

Comes now the financial collapse and economic crisis of 2008, inherited by Obama, with 40 percent of all stock values wiped out in a year, foreclosures pandemic, and unemployment near 7 percent and surging.

In crafting his solutions, Obama seems to be brushing aside the Reagan, JFK and Harding-Coolidge models, and channeling FDR and the New Deal Democrats.

Already staring at a $1.2 trillion dollar deficit for the year ending Sept. 30, about 8 percent of the entire U.S. economy, Obama intends to add a stimulus package of $700 billion to $1 trillion, yet another 5 percent to 7 percent of gross domestic product. The resulting deficit would be twice as large as Reagan’s largest, 6 percent of GDP, which was the largest since World War II.

6. Egads, the economy sucked until Clinton
These people make their money on stocks and that's all they can see. They don't care what kind of crooked irresponsible shit creates those dividends, as long as they get them. What's worse, no matter how many times their shit causes the entire economy to crash and cause real suffering to millions of people, they never learn because they never really suffer.

I pity you, and all the republicon fools who have enriched the already wealthy and trashed America's middle class -- and who might actually, sincerely swallow the republicon propaganda you are catapulting.

11. To Buchanan, "succeeded" means "gave the rich more money, and laid the
groundwork for our current economic fiasco," and "failed" means "working people had more money, and the public benefited." Rethugs will always believe that giving the rich more is good, 'coz God loves them more, or he wouldn't have made them rich. Or something like that.

15. Reagan cars
During the Reagan administration we had a lot of "Reagan" cars in central Wisconsin. People couldn't afford new cars so they drove the old ones until they couldn't go any more. A "Reagan" car is one with canabolized parts. A red car would have a white door, a blue car would have a red hood and so on. And there were a lot of rusted out wrecks on the road.

23. You've got to understand that Pat Buchanan is basically a fascist prick
He worked in the Nixon and Bush I White Houses. He spent decades as a Nazi apologist, (check it on Google). He's a bigot due to his childhood upbringing, his need to feel superior (or at least relevant), and the great amount of money he now makes by saying disgusting things on the air.

How I miss Molly Ivins. After Buchanan's poisonous, hate-filled speech at the 1992 Republican convention, Molly remarked that "It sounded better in the original German."

I love it whenever Buchanan is on the air and gets stuck sitting next to either Rachel Maddow or Katrina Vanden Heuvel. Watching either of them castrate him is one of my high points of the week.
