Senate thwarts Coburn filibuster of lands bill

The Senate voted during a rare Sunday session to move forward on a package that has become known as the “Coburn omnibus” because it is designed to thwart a filibuster by Sen. Tom Coburn (R-Okla.).

The most recent version of the Coburn omnibus is a 1,000-plus page package that consists of more than 160 different provisions governing various land-use issues.

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) tried to move many of the provisions through the Senate last year but action was held up by Coburn’s use of dilatory procedural tactics.

Reid’s decision to vote on a Sunday to quash Coburn’s filibuster was interpreted by some Senate observers as a non-too-subtle rebuke of the junior senator from Oklahoma. The cloture motion passed 66-12.

1. ANYTHING that stalls a republi-CON filibuster is a good thing.
Especially from one of these Oklahoma Assholes. coburn and inhofe - HATERS of Mother Earth and protecting our planet and trying to stave off global warming so we ALL can survive and that our planet can continue to be habitable. They are haters and obstructors of this.

And they should be widely derided as such - in public, in the media, in general, casual conversation - EVERYWHERE. You wanna talk about the demonization of someone? Well THIS is it. NO ONE deserves to be stifled more than these two.

With apologies to any DUers from Oklahoma (to which I'd delicately ask - WHY????), your senators are both brain-dead. Great 13th-Century minds of our time, both of them. Seemingly determined to make sure we maintain our selfish, myopic, greedy world view and everyone and everything else on the planet be damned. And everyone and everything else on the planet would indeed be damned if these two had their way. Somebody needs to stick a sock in 'em, and then add Superglue or something to keep the sock securely in place.

2. I think lobbyists look for people just like Inhofe and Coburn. A tendency
to be evangelically obsessive which can be transferred to an agenda that might bring them some money that they can reinvest in some evangelical or not purpose with a cut to Cheney and an additional cut from sub-contractors that will be used since there is always development for the profit of a few. That was a LONG CIRCLE like sentence - appropriate for their LONG CIRCLE DEALS with some of the money tagged on to the circle just like the extension of a 'Q' - at the end of Q is their pants pocket.

3. Hell, I live in Oklahoma, and I don't understand it
Our senators have never been the brightest. In the late 90s when we still had Don Nickles, he tried to pin Ruby Ridge (which happened in 1992) on Bill Clinton who took office in 1993. So, give us a break. We've gone from clueless and evil to just evil, which could or could not be looked at as an improvement. Goodness and decency are more difficult but will hopefully one day follow.
