Calling PE OBAMA...Please see what you can do to rid our Nation from Taser Guns
It seemed like a good idea....but unintended consequences has emerged to reveal a sorid misuse resulting in too many fatalities..

The Police, and I love um, used to work with them as a Fire Captain, are known to have a percentage not really mentally "there". Posing as normal...they exist.

If we count the fatalities of the past 12 months....them deaths are not a couple...,more like dozens...

Its time to recall them gizmos....humans are not cows....

1. That's right, take a tool away from law enforcement officers
They can get by with .357 Magnums just like they did 30 years ago.

28. Or billy clubs or choke holds or...
other "non-lethal" methods of restraint. Nobody ever died from those.

Believe it or not, lawyers (and other people) have even blamed pepper spray for some deaths.

4. There have been many more people die from tasers..
than from police firearms, since police depts started using them. This is a very serious problem that needs addressing immediately.

29. 90% of statistics are BS
It's kind of like what Mark Twain used to say, "There are lies, damn lies - and statistics."

If you go by Amnesty International's numbers, there are more than 20 "deaths", but you can't just go by the numbers as they have the potential to be very misleading.

The numbers they use include instances where people died and the ME said the taser "couldn't be ruled out". In other words, the ME is saying, "The guy died after a taser was used on him and we don't know if the taser killed him or the half-pound of PCP he injected into his nutsack with a turkey baster."

Now if you go by the numbers where the ME said death was a result of a taser, it goes down to just about nil. Considering tasers are used hundreds of thousands of times each year, that ain't too bad and then if you take into consideration that many people would almost certainly suffer considerably more injuries and possibly death if other more physical methods of restraint were used, the issue becomes a lot more complicated.

The fact is police have to deal with batshit crazy people routinely (many of which have done enough drugs to kill a mature water buffalo). It's inevitable that some are going to die one way or another with or without police intervention even if nothing but the best techniques and tools are used. Simply saying "people die, tasers bad" is almost always bullshit post hoc nonsense.

Now that's not to say there aren't stupid cops out there doing stupid things, but when you consider in many places cops are paid shit and given almost no training, it's a small wonder there aren't far more problems.

7. I agree 100%
teasers are seeming to be just as bad as guns. Too many deaths as the results of teasers they should be banned.

17. You can experience 35 thousand volts (or more) by touching a doorknob
Edited on Sun Jan-11-09 09:26 PM by IDemo
after walking across the carpet on a dry day.

The actual voltage from a Taser when applied to a human body will drop from around 50kV (open circuit) to 6kV or less. It is the 19 pulses per second of current that causes the neuromuscular system to effectively shut down.

18. The TASER has proven itself many times to be a lethal weapon
It should be treated as deadly force EVERY time it is used. Given the fact that I doubt it will be outlawed, I would like the same accountability utilized as they do with firearms.

20. Maybe they just shouldn't be so much like, you know, guns
assuming the guilty BART officer isn't lying :eyes: , he mistook his (real) gun for his other penis extension Taser. If the Taser had a completely different trigger mechanism, maybe one where you pull backwards with two fingers, that wouldn't have happened.

25. Chicago study calls Taser's safety claims into question
http://www.cbc.ca/world/story/2008/01/30/taser-study.html
Last Updated: Wednesday, January 30, 2008 | 6:05 AM ET
CBC News

Taser stun guns may not be as safe as their manufacturer claims, according to a study carried out by Chicago researchers, CBC News has learned.

The team of doctors and scientists at the trauma centre in Chicago's Cook County hospital stunned 11 pigs with Taser guns in 2006, hitting their chests with 40-second jolts of electricity, pausing for 10 to 15 seconds, then hitting them for 40 more seconds.

When the jolts ended, every animal was left with heart rhythm problems, the researchers said. Two of the animals died from cardiac arrest, one three minutes after receiving a shock.

The findings call into question safety claims made by Taser International, the Arizona company that makes the stun guns, which are used by dozens of police departments across Canada.
