Yeah, I'm not going to DC, too expensive for one thing, but I still want to see history unfold as it happens. So I put in a request a few weeks ago to take 1/20 off, and so we are having a party with other friends who did the same. Won't be there in person, but it will be fun to see everything up close on TV and party with friends who helped make this day possible.

1. lots of folks FORCED to watch because of UNEMPLOYMENT
I'm sure many, MANY of them would gladly WORK rather than glue themselves to a television. :sarcasm:

10. Perhaps I should have mentioned in my OP that I'm making up for the day off
Edited on Mon Jan-12-09 11:17 AM by WI_DEM
by working Saturday. Then maybe it would be okay for me to take the day off. I'm not in a job that is secure either.

21. No need to mention that.
I'm taking off BOTH next Monday and Tuesday and I'm not going to act guilty just because other folks are unemployed.

I'm using paid vacation days that have to be used up anyway before March.

Anyone who has a problem with people taking off work to watch the inaugural can go jump in a very cold lake.

31. Wow! That is unnecessary.
That's going to be a pretty historic day. I don't think there is anything wrong with wanting to see it; even if you do have a job.

18. I am!
I would love to go see it in person, but it's way too cold, I'd rather stay home and be comfy and warm. But I am taking a vacation day to stay home and watch. I refuse to sit at work and just follow the DU posts and not be able to watch. This is probably going to influence me to finally go buy a cable splitter so I can watch the TV in my room while on the computer/DU.

19. I was given the option of three days to take as vacation
MLK, inauguration day, or President's day.

My wife has MLK and Pres off. What to do... what to do.

20. I already get MLK away from work, and then my scheduled days off
Middle of the week weekend, for ten plus years, but damn if it doesn't work out almost perfectly for federal holidays, many of which give me an automatic three-day weekend.

I think, for my Inaugural Lunch, I might make those half-smoked chili dogs I saw the recipe for here the other day. Might even precook them in beer, too, just for the hell of it.

22. I work in downtown DC. Our office is closed.
The Secret Service has asked virtually all businesses to shut down for the day. They don't want access to any rooftops.
