Inmates Forced To Use Finger Toothbrushes
Inmates Forced To Use Finger Toothbrushes
Standard Toothbrushes Could Be Potential Weapons, Officials Say

FORT MYERS, Fla. -- Standard toothbrushes are out at the Lee County Jail, as officials try to take a potential weapon out of inmates' hands.

This week, the jail is bringing in brush tips that fit on the finger.

Sgt. David Velez said toothbrushes are among the most commonly altered items found in cells during random shakedowns. Staffers remove anything being used for purposes other than what was originally intended.

The move wasn't sparked by any recent events, Velez said, but as a precaution to protect both inmates and officers.

1. So what? At least they can still brush their teeth. Better than
having a toothbrush up your rectum.

4. No, they don't use them for that, they use them to assault each other.
If you sharpen it down, it can make a good weapon, if you use enough force, just about anything will break skin.

7. If the handle is softened sufficiently with a lighter, the blade from
a disposable razor can be fitted into the end, making a slashing instrument.

9. A toolthbrush up the rectum sounds like assault to me.
And other parts too.

2. "Forced" is a pretty loaded word to use in a headline.

5. I think they'd be handy for everyday use.

disposable one time tooth brushes. They might even do a better job. Fingertip tooth brushes, I'd buy them.

8. So if they refuse to brush their teeth, they are being held down and forced? n/t

10. Human beings are born to create & adapt tools.
If you warehouse humans, they'll take any scrap or widget you leave around them and turn it into something usuable---normally something to be used in a way that you don't want them to use it.

The only way to cut down on the problem of prisoners converting toothbrushes into tools you don't want them to have is to get them to spend time doing something mentally engaging--which of course dfeafeats most peoples' idea of what prison should be.
