Why would the FBI issue such a stupid statement. What's next, FBI declares two car crash on I-95 is not terrorism.

How many two car crashes on I-95 every day? How many airliner crashes in NYC every day?

5. It is supposed to make us feel better that a plane crashed from
an accident like hitting birds, or in other cases when an engine falls off or fails due to who knows what. "At least it wasn't terrorism" means it was something there was no control over, which is somehow supposed to be better. Personally I'd rather have a cause that could be made to not happen again.

13. why not just ignore threads you don't like?
Always seems odd when people post only to complain about the topic of the thread.

10. They issue it because it's important to know; to quell fears and help a populace relax.
Because as someone else pointed out, cars crash on I-95 all the time. Planes crash/explode/whatever only every few years.

14. How would the FAA know for sure? How does it hurt to have two announcements?
What the hell is your beef with this? The FBI are the people in charge of determining what is and what is not a terrorist act. Not the FAA.

18. DOES IT SEEM a little weird to people that a plane is not protected against a freaking bird?
a bird can take down a whole plane? what gives? I thought a plane can fly with one of the engines out anyway? shouldn't they build in some kind of safety that protects against birds? I mean, there are a few birds in the sky.

20. Canadian geese are big. Airplanes are made mostly of aluminum.
Engines are very precisely made. Both engines were taken out by the impacts with the flock of geese.

23. Engines actually are made to withstand bird collisions, and at high speed.
Part of the testing of engines is to rev them up and shoot turkey carcasses at them at a few hundred miles an hour to make sure that they can handle the impact. However, they are not designed to handle multiple collisions, which these seems to be.

If they didn't give a straight answer, it'd be 'FBI laughs at reporters honest questions'.
