Even though I *live* in Toledo, right now I'm observing Orion from a mountain in Chile. Here it's a nice 60 degrees F, even in the middle of the night.

I picked a good week to get away.

Hamburg to be exact, just up the transit from Lockport as Stephaine Miller would say (though everything is "up" the transit to her).

I remember the snow more than cold - and I would take the cold in Minnesota over the amount of snow Buffalo gets any time.

snow wise -- Hamburg NY....I spent ONE winter there in the entire 22 years we've been married....NEVER AGAIN! Being from L.A. I always had such romantic "White Christmas" images of snow....well, it's COLD it's unexpectedly DIRTY and it's a huge PAIN IN THE ASS! OMG! What my BIL & SIL had to go through in the a.m. (dressing kids in one million layers, warming up car, shoveling driveway, snow plow schedules etc.) was unbelievable to me.

67. Weimaraner.
They're very athletic, though--some would say spazzed. ;-) Huck is now eight years old and probably the most loving dog I've ever experienced. He's still kick-ass athletic and at the same time codependent and houndy when it comes to kicking back by the fire or hitting the hay pile for the night. ;-)

Recommended for those who have raised dogs before. ;-) If you haven't had dogs around before, don't even entertain the thought of a weim, because the weim will OWN you. ;-)

Come to think of it, that's an oxymoron if ever there were one. Plus I have a kickass stomach virus on my 60th birthday.

You want cold? I'll give you cold. I have so many covers on the bed I have to use mechanical assistance to breathe, and yet I am colder than I have ever been in my life. And I have stood in the valleys of South Korea in winter. Wife says I feel like I'm burning up. Wife lies.

In specific defiance of known physics, for the past 2 days I have shit enough to sink a battleship, despite having eaten absolutely nothing solid.

Well at least Obama will be president soon. Overall life is wonderful.

Except for the stomach bug part. Sorry you're feeling low. Hope it gets better soon.

However, the blankets/burning up comments all too neatly encompass DH and I's bedtime discussions. "You're a furnace." (Him.) "How can I be a furnace when I am FREEZING to DEATH? Pull up the last quilt." (Me.) "You're still a furnace." (Him.) And because his universe revolves around getting the last word, I pull up the quilt for myself and settle in and shut up. It's too cold to talk anyway. :-)

on edit: -1 in Detroit...we're on the upswing, I'm told.

When you're feeling all better, make sure you give a special thank you to your wife for watching over you like she does.

Trusted friends/spouses don't come around 'every day'.....they are few and far between....and sometimes will never come again.

Make sure you 'love' the one who loves you! (don't mean to be 'preachy', but just speaking from "mis-experience" of my own making ;-) )

Peace,
M_Y_H

after a record high of 50 today. It had been below zero, as low as -30, until Tuesday night, but it has warmed up quick with the continuing Chinook. We're having high winds, gusting to 120 mph in the higher elevations, rain and flooding. I think I almost liked the cold better. It's supposed to normalize over the weekend.

Last night was worse if you can believe it. The horses are all blanketed and tucked into warm stalls PLUS we blanket the tractors and equipment we need to operate in the morning after putting on chargers and heaters....

It's crazy.

This old farmhouse we moved into in July isn't great on insulation so we're burning through a lot of wood these past few days AND propane for the furnace in order to keep it @ 64+/- degrees inside.

91. 8° in Western NC (Asheville area) and I'm grateful
I no longer live in Chicago, WI, MA, CT, NY and any other northern clime! I couldn't believe it looking at the weather maps over the past few days. 8° is as cold as I want to get, TYVM. Today, though, sounds like we're pretty close to many Northeast temperatures.
