George W. Bush will leave the White House for good on Tuesday, but two controversial U.S. attorneys appointed by him have no intention of leaving the Justice Department.

U.S. Attorney Mary Beth Buchanan of Pittsburgh, a member of the conservative Federalist Society who is close to former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum, pledged last month to remain in her post.

And U.S. Attorney Alice Martin of Birmingham, whose conduct has been the subject of repeated investigations by Congress and the Justice Department’s ethics office, several of which are still pending, will stay on in her post, The Daily Beast reported Friday.

It seems to me that the real problem is the idiologicaly correct civilian hires that are burried deep in the Justice Department. They've had 8 years to move up the chains of command, 8 years from now they will be in charge of all of the various divisions and departments. Those are the people who have to be identified and assigned to posts deep in Nebraska and Montana.

What did Montana ... or Nebraska, for that matter ... ever do to deserve them?

Just let them go and stand in an employment line somewhere, unless there are charges that can be proven against them (could be, after all), in which case they can be gainfully employed making license plates or doing laundry.

And yes, I concur wholeheartedly that it's not just the political appointees who needed to be weeded out ... and not only from the DOJ.

Civil Service means there have to be legal causes for removal. Drinking the wrong soda probably wouldn't do it, sadly.

they will leave on their own. But, some will stay just to muck things up. Still...we must have hope.

and that's not who we are talking about here. we are talking about US Attorneys and political appointees. legally they have no protection comparable to civil service.

The appointees got to hire regular civil servants and they illegally hired based on political conviction. Not those little politically correct hires are GS-13's and such but 8 years from now they will be GS-15's and in charge of not only hiring of like minded people but also of the various departments and branches and all the little nooks and crannies of Government.

no phones, no outside communications. They must report there daily. Its not illegal but it sure marginalizes and isolates them.

Use an abandoned airplane hanger in the boonies somewhere. Supply electricity and running water. A single phone and a single fax line/machine. Both monitored. Check up on them periodically and unexpectedly. Anyone not at their post is AWOL. If they are asleep, grounds for discipline and eventual dismissal. The same for any other activities not allowed during working hours. Other than that, nothing for them to do.

Cut their paychecks out. You don't get a paycheck after you are fired.

They serve at the president's pleasure. If Obama wants them gone, they'll be gone.

We've got enough problems to deal with with Governor Princess.

This isn't Gonzo's attorney-gate - Iglesias and co. were illegally fired for refusing to follow orders to break the law.

Obama doesn't have that problem. US Attorneys serve at the pleasure of the President, and he has every right to fire them for any reason that is not illegal. Including political reasons.
