Locals Help Send War Hero to Inauguration



VACAVILLE, CA - A retired U.S. Air Force lieutenant colonel and an original member of the famed Tuskegee Airmen in the 1940s, James Warren said he's always had faith in the goodness of people. His faith continues to be reaffirmed.

After News10 featured Warren in December and his difficulty making his way to Washington, D.C. to take part in inauguration festivities for President-elect Barack Obama, News10 and news10.net viewers came through to offer help.

"I'm staying with a family that responded to your last broadcast," said Warren. "I had so many people offer help so what I'm going to do is share the donations with other Tuskegee Airmen who are having to pay out of their own pocket because that's what it was given to me for, to get the Tuskegee Airmen to the inauguration."

Warren will leave his home Sunday and head to Washington, D.C. "I'm as excited as I can be," he said. "I'm getting more excited every minute. Never in my life did I think I'd have the privilege of seeing this happen."

Warren, a Vacaville resident who spent more than 35 years with the Air Force, became one of the original Tuskegee Airmen in 1943.
