Hours.

So says my little countdown clock. It began with measuring the years, months, days and hours to the end of the Bush regime. At times it seemed as though the day would never arrive. Then it changed to months-days-hours. As we wearied of the callousness and indifference of those who daily betrayed our promise, as we suffered the climate of unrelenting fear fomented by those who reviled our Constitution, there were moments when it seemed the clock had stopped. Then it changed again, counting only days and hours. We began to embrace once more the validity of hope and all the potential it brings. We have begun to experience an enthusiasm for WHO WE ARE that has been too long absent. Hours. That's all the little clock marks, now. Small wonder that our enthusiasm is becoming unbridled exuberance.

In one of history's most elegant counterpoints, the Obama celebrations carry us forward. We are reclaiming our country, our promise. And we energize ourselves for the work ahead by giving our national soul a few splendid hours of dancing for joy.
