I just found out on Tuesday that Senator Jim Webb and I share a birthday: February 9th!

I don't look forward to them as much as I used to (I'm really having a problem with getting old). Maybe I'll get a "special" piece of birthday cake? That ought'a make me feel better.:smoke:

always tells the story about how she came out of the doctor's office, having been told that yes, she was in labor and should get to the hospital ASAP, and saw my dad's butt hanging over the edge of the nurse's station. And then, when she went over to tell him that they had to go to the hospital, he shushed her and said, "Not now! The Challenger just exploded!" (My mother is a better woman than I - she didn't kill my father then like I probably would have, lol, and they're still married 21 years later.) :)

I was living in Orlando and my parents and sister flew out to spend my birthday with me. I had to work on the 28th so they drove out to the Cape to see the shuttle launch. I heard what happened almost immediately and my first thought was that it exploded on the pad and my family was in cinders (those suckers carry a LOT of fuel).

I went to a window where people were gathered -I worked at Orlando airport - and saw the forked plume of smoke over the Cape. Sad as it was, at least I knew it got off the ground before it exploded. My family, needless to say, watched it all and it cast a real pall over their trip. Terrible day.
