I chose to sit through it with my 14 and 8 year old daughters, and apart from my usual Disney channel induced wincing, I've got to say this is just brilliant public relations on the part of the new administration.

The crowd was electric. Talk about engaging a new audience. Can you imagine W. (or even the Clintons) being able to pull anything like this off?

It was simultaneously focused on the kids of military families. It brings another systemic racism issue to the fore, since 50% of the folks shown (and the military?) were minorities and I presume had to join "voluntarily" because of economic hardship.

PS: And I'm also hoping, very maternally here at 42, that those kids on stage have adequate parental supervision. I don't know how you can be a "pop star" at barely 15 and not turn into a raving maniac.

1. Yeah. It was fun
I watched it and I don't have kids.

:silly:

It was really clever to bring the kids into the concept of voting, public officials and elective office.

2. Team Obama is smart, they know the kids are the future
Get the message of service and sacrifice to them in a medium they understand.

My 7 yr old daughter has a girly-crush on Sasha...she says we are gonna have the girls over for a sleep over, and wants to write her a letter about her puppy, etc...

It's awesome to have our young'ns involved too!

7. It will be nice to see such a young family in the White House
His kids remind me so much of my own a few years ago. I just hope the media stays away and lets them be children and give their father a chance to interact with them in somewhat normal ways. I was really irritated when they were pressing President-Elect Obama when he was trying to do some Halloween trick and treating.

I feel that way about all figures in the public spot light. They deserve to have peace in their lives.

6. As brilliant as this might be ...
The HBO choice was less so ...

HBO owning a public celebration ? ... Even for just six months: It was a bad decision ...

9. I enjoyed it...
watching with my 14 year old daughter (with whom I went to a Jonas Brothers concert and lost a good portion of my hearing!). It was great to see the Obama girls light up when the Jonas Brothers came on. I think , after 8+ years of listening to her mom rant about bush, my daughter now feels in touch with who will be in the White House tomorrow. I feel even better about the future now!
