1. Lots of people or they wouldn't sell it.
I guess years from now, might be valuable.

I always thought the twin towers coin was in terribly poor taste.

37. If you are talking about the first one
$9.95 isn't bad if the shipping is not to high. A oz. of .999 silver is at $11.90 today.

I'm not that all that bothered by it.

My grandma gave me her JFK stuff right before she died. I have a JFK inaugural paper weight and letter opener. To me it's priceless.

14. now the JFK stuff was different........
I don't recall the paper weight or the letter opener but we used to have a JFK silver dollar but that was made by the govt, not someone trying to make a buck off of someone else's fame.

11. good question!
I see that stuff on TV all the time!

There was something advertised a few days ago where they were selling a $2.00 bill with Obama's image on it in gold leaf. And they also had a coin that they would add which was worth about $1.00 They were charging something like $29.98 for both of them.

I sat there thinking.....so you basically pay $30.00 for something that's only worth $3.00!!

I don't know, I suppose there could be a market for that stuff since it was an historic election but I wouldn't buy it.

20. A friend sent me the Obama gold coin for
Christmas. He has seen my coin collection - I have hundreds of coins and some are quite valuable.

He does have more sense than to send me the Twin Towers. I don't know why anyone would want that one.

25. I hate seeing that stupid towers coin.
Every few months someone seems to post that here. I'm not sure if I'm the only one here at DU, but my much loved stepson lost his much loved aunt that day -top floor- and that coin is the one this that pisses me off more than anything else. I always try to ignore it, but I always end up clicking, and commenting. When it's on TV I change the channel, but it's hard not to say something when it's on DU.

Am I alone in not even wanting to see this as an example of bad taste? Isn't this a little bit like holding up shit to point out that sometimes things smell?

Exactly my thought every time I see the tabloids by the checkout stand at the grocery store. Same people who read the tabloids probably buy the other crap.

31. Always remember...
if it's not any kind of official money, often the only worth these type of coins have is what one would get for the material.
Too many people eventually had to realize that their collection is only worth a fraction of what they had to pay.
