Three things: DUzy is delayed until at least Thursday, as I will have surgery on Monday and health comes first, yaknow.

Second: I want to try a little experiment - when you nominate for DUzy I would like to put it in its appropriate category, if it considers special consideration, please notate it so, otherwise it'll just be in the regular DUzy section.

Third: I'm currently looking for a volunteer assistant to help. I can already see why JeffR put in a lot of work, and no appreciation (except when he decided to give it up) for it. I will need a "substitute" because in about 5 weeks, my wife and I are expecting our first son, and I will have zero time to pay attention to DU.. I'm sure it'll be a temporary thing, and something that didn't cross my mind when I decided to take over for Jeff.

for awhile to come, so it'd be a pleasure. I always loved the DUzys, so it should be interesting.

... just like volunteering to be a moderator.

It's a lot of work, unpaid and probably prone to burnout.

That JeffR did it for so long is just pure dedication.

But don't forget, your responsibility here now is hugh.

Or would that be too much work? Just thinking of a way to "automate" as much of the nominating and sorting process as possible.

... has sole (other than mods and admin) access. I'll bet the software "wiring" is mostly present in the DU software.

I think the DUzy's are a great addition to the site, and really help to improve the "community" feel of this place. :hi:

That's much of what impressed me about JeffR ... his unerring sense of what was funny without victimizing any DUer or 'class' of DUers. Too often, snark can be seen as funny ... but not by everyone. The target often doesn't share the feeling. (Nor do I, actually. I don't like "victim humor.")

Anyway, a very ambitious and unselfish contribution you're about to make, Hawk. It is noticed and appreciated!

I've been known to suggest DUzy winners from time to time. I will try to think in terms of categories for you.

And congratulations on your new baby! You're in for quite a ride - he'll be a doozy on his own! Wait til he's 16 (which will be the day after tomorrow). Mine has his own rock band now (and yes, it feels like he was just born the day before yesterday...)

Wish I could help, but I just took on a HUGH volunteer project related to helping returning veterans aquire mental health services.

Thanks again for taking on the mental health service that the DUzys provide for us here at Democratic Underground. :)
