Attorney: Lesbian custody case now an 'agenda' item

A lesbian child custody case goes back to court this week.

Lisa Miller had a child named Isabella while in a lesbian relationship with Janet Jenkins in Vermont, but Miller left the relationship after converting to Christianity and moved to Virginia. Now, a Virginia judge is honoring Vermont's civil union law by ordering that Jenkins have visitation rights.

Mat Staver of Liberty Counsel says that ruling was handed down in court with all three present. He notes Isabella has been negatively affected by the forced visitations.

"Just for a little while visiting with Janet, Isabella has already had a reaction," he notes. "And in fact little Isabella, six-and-a-half years old who otherwise is just an absolutely adorable little girl, came away from that visitation and said she wished she were dead."

He believes there is more to Jenkins' agenda than seeing Isabella. "You know when we're in a situation like this, Janet Jenkins does not care about the sake of little Isabella's future. It is now a homosexual agenda," he contends. "It is looking at what this would do to advance the homosexual agenda and not how it would devastate and literally destroy the future of Isabella's life."

Staver encourages prayer for this week's court hearing, saying it is vital for Isabella's mental and emotional health.

bizarre and my heart aches for Isabella and Ms. Jenkins.

I hope this doesn't turn into another Terri Schiavo type situation (a national media blitz), but if it does, the Christian Supremacists will just discredit themselves further, if that were possible.

There is no such thing as a "Christian" agenda?

I'll tell you which one is worse if there were actually TWO agendas.

But, we all know there is only one.

More so because so many fundamentalists present as high functioning individuals, ones who do have an actual "lifestyle" (as apposed to the biological and societal necessary sexuality of Gays---Being Gay is NOT a lifestyle as most of us understand here at DU) that appears to desire to "nurture" life.

Rather, as in very clear with a literal reading of the bible---the interpretation fundies insist is the correct one-- the fundie lifestyle has an imperative to destroy life, and wait with sad but righteous indignation for the entire world to be destroyed as well.

This is an example of the fundie lifestyle. A exact example of the destruction they promote. The child would would be healthy and nurtured by what are as healthy and nurturing adults as anybody else, and would never have to consider the sexuality of her parents if fundies would go off and wait to die on their own, and destroy each other. But no, in their imperative to destroy, to wait for their God to destroy the world, they try to do as much harm as possible, by forcing their agenda on the innocent.

And have the fucked up nerve to think a loving God would approve.
